Integration of differing National cultures and Religeons. Anybody else like a stab at what this actually means, that is the recognition that integration has been successful within a geographic area.
Having watched a television program focusing on the Jewish community moving onto Canvey Island, Essex, I am not sure that true integration is actually possible, the Jewish community appeared to be a gentle cultural Society deeply focused upon thier beliefs which determines thier ‘way of life’. This determines that the dilution of this ‘way of life’ is extremely unlikely their culture will adopt to other cultures. This in reality suggests that true integration will never happen. Perhaps leaving alongside differing cultures in peace and respect is enough, this seems more likely in respect of the Jewish community judging from the documentary, albeit very short and not detailed information.

"Past attempts to settle in Hertfordshire and Milton Keynes foundered because of hostile reactions to people whose dress and lifestyle are seen as odd"

Which is why they have been welcomed to Canvey Island.

I’ll put my neck in a noose, but there is one specific culture that (from my own experience) has absolutely no issue with segregation and thrives in ghettos.

My fathers side of the family came from the tougher parts of Sheffield as Irish migrants, my dad was born in Ireland but came across at a very, very young age. They ‘integrated’ found jobs, made friends, all the usual stuff, she was a devout Catholic but went about her business quietly.

Fast forward to her later years, she’s still living in the family home she has for decades in an area called Darnall. It’s nothing flash, but the area is now almost wholly Pakistani Muslim. What she was subjected has forever formed my opinion of this group and is why I have the current belief that I’d be quite happy to see them put on a boat and sunk in the Atlantic.

Physical violence, intimidation, posting dog st and fireworks through the letterbox, killing her cat and leaving it on the doorstep, smashing windows, chasing away friends that come to visit. I had “innits” try to stop me getting out of the car on several occasions when I went to visit. When I was at school the lads would take it turns to try and give me a pasting.

They hounded her until the day she died, and carried on hounded my grandad until he died too. They eventually got the house. We couldn’t sell it to anyone else cause of the absolute sthole the area had become.

However, skip across town to London road and you’ll see Chinese, Thai, Indian, Bangladeshi, African etc... all living in a socialist multi-cultural utopia. It’s great.

Multi-culturalism does work, just not with that specific culture, and there’s nothing the champagne socialists of PH can say to change my mind.
If that is all as you say it is, and I have no reason to not believe it, that is disgusting and shameful.

What you say sounds very familiar. There are a few estates near Rochdale which are very similar. The slight difference is that these are predominantly white "working"-class estates. Anybody of an Asian background who has moved in soon moves out when they're house or car has been torched 3 times. the Wallbank Estate is an excellent example but there are others.

In short, scummy people behave in a scummy fashion. It's not unique to any particular "community".

Lol.

Good luck with that.
How exactly would a government policy get people to choose to live in one area over another?

This. Scum are scum, they don't get a free pass because of their skin colour or belief in the right sky faerie.

"Integration" and "multiculturalism" are about learning to get along despite our differences. It takes time. Newer cultures become part of the rich tapestry of our current culture, but only over successive generations and only if our culture permits it. It is usually the best of both cultures that survive, I.E. Indians bought curry, not bad hygiene.

People who are stuck in their ways resist this and like to pretend cultures never change.. but the world leaves them behind and deep down, they know it.

Bad behaviour is not restricted to a specific race, creed or culture. For every Rotheram, there is a Christian Brothers. I'm certain Catholics would rightfully take offence at me saying every catholic man is a paedophile even though that is the same standards some would like applied to Muslims.

As for Muslims, they average one wants the same thing as the average white person. A nice house, car, a few luxuries and a loving family. In countries like Indonesia (the worlds largest Muslim population) this is what most of them are striving for.

The people that live on the estate Countdown mentioned don't pretend to be followers of the true word of god, with all the peace, love and harmony that brings.

Interesting, I was brought up in the era of outright racialism, during this period focus appeared to be directed to the Black ethnic. The recent death of a black football player, top drawer player and very successful, dispite this he and others subjected to racial abuse from football terraces.
That was around thirty five years ago, now I have a four year old grandson, he lives in Brentford which is fairly multiculturally populated. Grandson plays, talks and generally socialises with the different Nationalities just the same as he will with English kids. He simply does not see any differences at this stage and that’s exactly what his parents wish for. Time will tell if these kids are pressured into their own cultural religious habits which of itself will continue cultural segregation. Hope not for what we have we must learn to live with and accept
as one Society, but it takes two to tango (English expression?)

As you’ll see from the link I ousted some of them behave in exactly the same way as their indigenous counterparts so, arguably, they’ve integrated extremely well.

What difference does it make what religion they are? Do you think the aggro that KarlMac’s grandparents was religiously motivated?

So religion is irrelevant?

It was irrelevant to the example Countdown gave. Integration, by definition, requires both sides to integrate, ie, the indigenous population to allow others in, and vice versa. Any estate where people of a different background are not allowed in, creates segregation.

I have a different definition of 'Integration' to you. You mean 'compromise'.

Btw - I think it's st that any area of the UK isn't welcoming to those that want to become British.

We're talking integration, not compromise. Allowing people in is the first part of integration.

It's also st that any area of the UK isn't welcoming to those that want to retain their Britishness.

'Allowing people in is the first part of integration'.

Honestly, I don't know what this means from a host country point of view.
