I for one welcome our Germanic overlords.

Oh yeah, Brexit.

I'm sure a German led military integration will be well received across the continent.

Their motivation is probably more to do with having big military aspirations while only wanting to spend 50p on it (and a lack of organisational quality) rather than anything like a 4th Reich.

At least for now.
Ask the Catalans about the harsh jackboot of the EU....

EU army... you're 'avin' a larf!!!!
We have the so-called French-German Brigade stationed near here.
They couldn't knock the skin off a rice pudding. Constant bickering as to who is in charge.
Are we using the Peugeots or the Unimogs today? Whose radio's are you using? (2 completely incompatible types).
Most kit is incompatible with the other nations....
They can't even agree on the command structure and which language to use......
as for the taxation idiocy, both states want to tax the soldiers....

So you imagine the drunken Juncker could organise an EU Army?????
A VERY small man with Napoleonic/Hitlerite intentions.... Exile him to St Helena where he can reign in peace

I suspect it's not so much that that they could, it's that they'll try and in the process waste billions...

Quite, of those predicting an EU army at some point in the future I don't recall anyone saying it'll be effective.

Of course. It’ll happen and it’ll be a very expensive fk up. Just like the EU itself.

An EU common defence force makes sense.

The German military is up st creek frankly. A German ‘Report on the Operational Readiness of the Bundeswehr’s Primary Weapons Systems’ was presented to Germany’s lower house of parliament in June. Stating less than a third of German military assets are operational and those operational are only used for an average of 4 months a year as the rest of the time they are undergoing repair or maintenance.

https://ukdefencejournal.org.uk/less-third-german-...

Number of weapon systems ready for action:

Typhoon jets: 39 of 128
Tornado jets: 26 of 93
CH-53 transport helicopters: 16 of 72
NH-90 transport helicopters: 13 of 58
Tigre attack helicopters: 12 of 62
A400M transport aircraft: 3 of 15
Leopard 2 tanks: 105 of 224
Frigates: 5 of 13
Submarines: 0 out of 6

Maybe we should invade?

Just out of interest, how would that compare the UK readiness or say French readiness?

I understand a percentage of hardware is always not operational due to planned maintainance, unplanned repairs, mothballed stuff, awaiting parts, etc but how do the Germans compare to a similarly developed nation? Genuinely curious smile

strikes me that amongst serving military personnel you'd find a larger than average concentration of pro nationalistic ideals. Trying to amalgamate them to represent the EUs interests must be like herding cats.

You do realise that all of the above highlight the rationale to move towards a unified force? It won't happen immediately, but working towards equipment compatibility and clarified command structures is clearly a major part of the project.

Junker will have very little to do with it, and will be gone before too long - it will be down to the professionals to make it happen.
