Apropos of nothing, I do not regard an American as a greater friend than a Dutchman or an Estonian. The US is not really a single nation culturally anyway. I have a lot more in common with some Estonians I know than , say, some Texans I also work with.
Or perhaps your Estonian friends have some serious military hardware hidden in their garages
Tell me, do you see America as an enemy or an ally, if the former what's changed in 75 odd years?

No doubt at all that US are great allies - especially at an operational and military level. Some of their politicians are absurd however.

I will say living up here has been a sad eye opener for me how poorly educated and narrow minded so many of you are. The change from Suffolk has been markedly noticeable. And the saddest bit is how you take delight in letting everyone know what a narrow minded opinionated individual you are!
Well go back from whence you came!Countdown said:

Europe and the UK is defended massively by the American military umbrella . Absurd to say otherwise, although it seems plenty will.
Absurd to think they're not doing it solely for the benefit of the US.In short they can either fight Russia in Europe or they can fight them on their own borders. We serve the same purpose for the US that Cuba did for the USSR.

You know nothing about me, but come up with the above and call me an armchair warrior
It's amazing what I know about you, your fantastical life is spread across multiple sub forums on PH, and can at best be described as 'Walt' like.

You'll find far more in common with Americans in general than you will with people living only 500 miles to our East.
I've probably spent about a year in total in the US in several states. I've probably spent 2-3 years in Europe in various bits. Apart from the language, American society is vastly more alien than any European one to me at least. I could never, ever imagine living in the US and feeling any ease. There's plenty of bits of Europe I'd feel fine in.

Likewise I could happily live everywhere I've been in Europe but what is so alien about the US? Who couldn't settle anywhere between places as diverse as Hawaii, Alaska, California, Florida, New England, the Mid West, the Rockies or anywhere in between... There's something for absolutely everyone. Where was your year?fblm said:

Nothing about the geography or the people. Both are amazing. It's the patriotism, religion, psychotic work ethic, health system, justice system, guns, racial tension, lack of public transport and the insane political divisions.

Some fair points but can't say any of that affected me at all in 6 years in NYC although the slack jawed patriotism is a bit tiresome. It's the patriotism, religion, psychotic work ethic, health system, justice system, guns, racial tension, lack of public transport and the insane political divisions.
