Make sure it's a leather wallet.

Presumably all these offended vegans were totally fine with the amount of trees that had to be felled (and presumably unseated plenty of animals in the process) in order to create the paper money they've been using for years?

Not found anywhere that states the origin of the tallow, does anyone know what animal it is sourced from?
Tallow is a rendered form of beef or mutton fat, processed from suet. It is solid at room temperature. Wikipedia

Except that may not be 100% the case unless they now separate the different waste and render it seprately.

IIRC sheep with a fleece blocked things up and cats produced a different fat but I personally saw everything from Elelephants / whales as well as domestic animals go through the process but admittedly this was pre BSE / CJD so may have changed now.

This gives the general gist of things.

An old anecdote but not sure how true:

old people say fish & chips don't taste like they did may be due to a massive reduction in the use / rendering of horses.

It took me about two minutes googling to confirm tallow is the regular anti-static agent used to stop polymer pellets binding together.

What will these idiots wear on their feet?
Fair trade Raffia sandals only?

Pretty poor show TBH
Fair play if you choose to avoid animal products, even an idiot would have realised it was a dumbass idea to use animal products in notes..

Aren't vegans against using anything made with animal products such as leather shoes etc?

8( so their reaction isn't that surprising is it?

It's 'tallow', same as used in soap and candles.

What a mad world. What can they (the offended) get upset at next?

Someone ought to remind them that all those plastic notes and everything else they are using is made out of dead animals compressed into oil.

So even if they stop using tallow in the notes, how on earth do they recover them in circulation, apart from you cant.

So will the objectors refuse all notes just in case it has come into contact with those with tallow in.

I can fully understand folk being vegetarians and vegans, but to the point of not wanting to handle a £5 note is a bit to far I think. I am not a smoker, and it really irritates me when someone is upwind of me smoking, maybe I should start a petition to ban smoking totally, let me see.................

People are brain dead today. Animal fat has been used for an age in manufacture of lots of thing...

Jimboka better think twice the next time he's putting shopping in a plastic carrier bag (animal fat! is used, ie slip agent to prevent friction).

You could go on for ages...
As this is PHs, better check your car and bike tyres you tree-huggers!
Some tyre manufacturers use stearic acid, this assists in the tyres holding shape and under surface friction. Stearic acid?
It's animal based.

laugh

Sorry, got to go. My steak is now ready, and no, the fat is not cut off. lick

I used to work at "A Famous British Security Paper Manufacturer" (I won't name them biggrin), and at the factory I worked at we did a number of banknotes and passports. Pretty much all of them (and I'm pretty sure the UK ones too although it's been a while since I was there) have gelatin in them, which comes from animals.

I remember that every year our biggest supplier of gelatin would send us a present - a big box of matches with a picture of a cow on it. Funny guys. biggrin
