I didn't say there was a problem did I?
I simply posted that there was a pole and how the current vote was going.
If you're trying to imply something, then you're barking up the wrong tree.
I don't think his response was particularly directed at you, more of a rhetorical question. Calm down.I simply posted that there was a pole and how the current vote was going.

FWIW wherever there is a security risk e.g. Airports I think people should show their faces when requested, but banning something is ridiculous, I am probably the most anti religious person going but each to their own.
But how is a helmet different? There are signs to remove them in banks and post offices for security reasons, why not any other face coverings too?
Just to be clear, I don't care what people wear or not or whatever religion they choose to believe in, as long as they don't try to force it upon others.
I main reason I posted the poll was due to the large majority, usually votes are closer to 50/50

The Problem?
I'll say it.
Whatever spin any person wishes to apply, and no matter what the response persons from any particular demographic wish to give;
In this country, and many other, primarily western countries there is a dislike & mistrust of Islam.
Yes face coverings are undesirable. No matter if a helmet, balaclava or anything else but that is different. That is the fact that communication by expression is important. Plus its a trust thing.
This, well is out and out mistrust>hatred of Islam.
Nothing to do with skin colour, nor overall 'tolerance' it's Islam, pure and simple.
I disagree that this is about a mis trust of Islam, after all how many times has it been said that the burka is not required by islam?I'll say it.

At the moment there are reports being delivered about cultural isolation and a lack of integration and putting a physical barrier between people does not aid integration it certainly does not promote it.

I used to see it first hand, when I lived in Peterborough years ago it was on the edge of a large community/area of Muslims.
It didn't bother me at all, but there were shops where you were definitely not felt to be welcome, and quite often heard about things being thrown out of windows at you if you walked down some of the streets.
One moment that does spring to mind is when my Dad's wife went into one of their shops for some material.
She is a muslim from Morocco, they've been married 10 years since he met her when living in Spain.
She had been in the shop for ages, and Dad was in a hurry so went in to see what the problem was.
When he walked in his wife was just about to pay, as soon as the shopkeep saw she was with my Dad he pulled the material off the counter and said it wasn't for sale any more!
Its things like that that really make you wonder just how much do they want to integrate with the country they live in, or do they really prefer to just stay in their own little communities pretending they are elsewhere?

I think anyone should be allowed to dress however they wish, obviously to a certain level of decency.
Mankini or Burka whats the problem?
The issue is cultural oppression, that's what needs to be addressed, is it the woman's choice to wear it (is it worn as cultural heritage and has the choice to not wear it if she wishes, does she only wear it some of the time) or is she wearing it due to fear (has to wear it 100% of the time or she is punished)?
Are these women oppressed, if they are how else are they oppressed and what is the government doing about it?
A ban the burka campaign is vapid, short sighted and damn right inept...

I know I'll get shot down for pointing this out but one of the 7/7 bombers did evade CCTV by wearing a Burka. It was only when footage was reviewed that he was picked up.
Just to give the whole 'mistrust' thing a bit of traction. It is justified.
I bet he used an Oyster Card as well. I'd take a wild stab and say a similar proportion of Oyster Card and Burka users are terrorists.Just to give the whole 'mistrust' thing a bit of traction. It is justified.
Merkel calls for a ban, for once I agree with her.

Banning a symptom doesn't solve the root cause.

Cant imagine daytime tv watchers have much experience with other cultures sitting on their sofas all day so the intolerant results aren't surprising.
That's a pretty sweeping generalisation. Plenty of retired people watch daytime TV and I'd hazard a guess in the 50 odd years they've worked they've experienced quite a bit of other cultures. Gassing Station | News, Politics & Economics | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
