Very sad news. A very talented singer and songwriter. A troubled soul but a very generous and warm-hearted man. I met him a couple of times at the height of Wham's fame, he was very shy but polite and friendly.

RIP

Always happens on obituary threads, it's as predictable as night following day. They fall into groups just lately...

1 - those who say "Ooh, someone will be along to mention this has been a terrible year for celebrity deaths" when it's been no worse than normal. That's wrong...

2 - those who say "Why the grieving for someone you didn't know?" Firstly, people on here aren't grieving, they are paying tribute to someone who was a part of their growing up times. Secondly, if you object to people posting their thoughts on GM on this thread, then stay away and infect other threads instead.

3 - those who say "Never knew him, couldn't care" having just spent a minute or two composing their post.

3 - In this case, a race to see who can reach the bottom with unfunny jokes. Been a few already, there will be more. Oh, he was gay therefore let's tell a few gay jokes that we can adapt to include George Michael in them.

Quite sad really.

I think you need to take heed of your own advice at the end of point 2.

A sad day. Some on this thread are right in the respect we didn't know these people on a personal level. However music plays a big part in growing up and one of the first CD's we ever had was freedom90 and it brings back some good memories of growing up, as well as Quo, Bowie, Prince etc.

I think its perfectly natural to feel sad knowing that all that talent, energy and life that these artists had gave many millions of people help through bad times and pleasure through good times. It is perfectly normal to feel sad and shocked at their passing.

RIP George and thanks for the music!

Sad. He did a heck of a lot of charity work. Not a fan of the music myself but clearly a massive talent and I think it show drugs are no good no matter how rich or fit you are.

Never really a fan but rip George.

Yes, famous people die every year but 2016 does seem to have claimed a higher than average amount.

his style of music was not really my personal taste,(more of a blues fan), however I do recognise he had a great vocal talent, this is one of his best IMHO, still find this song very emotional every time I hear it.. RIP George, 53 is no age to go...frown

Here we go. Outpouring of grief from people who didn't even know him. Old stars appearing on the news saying how sad it is etc.

I'm sorry, but what makes me sad is kids being bombed and killed in places like Aleppo. Kids getting cancer and the like and dying before they even reach their teenage years.

People like GM have had years of life. Made decisions that have probably fked their health up in their later years.

Why is there an outpouring of grief? Because these people sang a few songs.

Things like this don't make me sad in the slightest. The collective grieving is even worse.

Oh well. He'll sell more records now.
Just because you know that when you die, no one will bat an eyelid, there's no need to be so bitter about people being sad about the death of someone whose life actually made a positive impact on millions. He was very talented, and you're not. Get over it.

Not a huge fan myself, but he wrote Careless Whisper when he was 12, which is in itself pretty remarkable. A friend of mine worked with him a few times and always said what a nice guy he was. I real shame he has died so young, and sad for his millions of fans.

Very sad. RIP.
I think these pop icons passing are particularly poignant when you are a certain age. It signifies an end to a period in your own life in a weird way as it closes a chapter, and it reminds you of everyone's mortality.
