And don't forget their house was absolutely covered in CCTV cameras and security measures.

Nothing dubious there.
Just didn’t want burgled like the rest of us!?
Birkby isn't that bad an area. It's surrounded by some really really nice bits of Huddersfield
I assumed his comment was tongue in cheek.

The house was like Fort Knox. Nothing innocent about it.
Didn’t know the full extent of security measures, but was pointing out that security measures are not necessarily suspicious.

More than 12 CCTV cameras on a regular sized house, I think it was. And something ridiculous like 6 just covering the front.

An early warning system basically.

Depends what you’re comparing it to. Regardless, I thought his house was in Crossland Moor?

One thing I find interesting : working in the Gulf (Bahrain) - most of my team are from Pakistan ... all very smart and capable and easy to get on with ... how did the UK end up with the dregs?
Not all were and, in part, the fact some went wrong - usually second or third generation immigrants - to my mind indicates a total lack of planning or policy with regard to integration. You can be legally British whilst not actually being knowledgeable or prepared to act British.

I don't think it's an integration issue. The industries that their parents worked in have disappeared so often they live in areas of high deprivation. Some of 2nd gen/ 3rd gen went to school, got an education and got jobs, Some didn't but still want the flash cars/houses/lifestyle so they do what every scrote does (be they indigenous or immigrant) - turn to crime.

In relation to Alfaman's point, I think 1st generation immigrants always seem to be harder-working. they've risked more in migrating, they need to earn more in order to establish themselves without any support group (because they're starting from scratch), they can't risk losing a job if they get one, and so on.

In relation to the OP - it doesn't make a lot of sense. Everything that's been printed about YY says "Scrote of the Highest Order" and yet his dad seems intent on keeping it in the public eye and reminding everybody how dodgy his son was...?

My friends father is first generation (Surgeon). His children are very much part of the British society. What makes me sad is he suffered racism both from neighbours and within his workplace.

What horrible people us humans are sometimes

What you describe is, in one way, an integration issue; invite people to the UK without thought of what might happen if/when the industry they serve shuts down. On a smaller scale, the small Midlands town I work in has seen this with the mines; people drafted in both from Scotland and the Northeast of the UK to staff the pits were often the ones that did least well when they closed.

I think that trait is relevant, particularly as it is not by any means, necessarily passed down through generations.

Well, although I don't really like that term, ask them and they will tell you.

According to my friends, the majority of those who came here in the 60's and 70's originated from the poorer, lower aducated, rural classes.

The more successful and educated often came as a result of being kicked out of Uganda (where they had been very successful) by Idi Amin in the early 1970's.

I'm not making value judgements here, just relaying what I have been told.

FWIW a lot of the Ugandan refugees were Hindu, Indians.

That's correct. The differences are (IMO) primarily because one group was rural/lesser educated and the other group were urban/educated. Going further, even those from a rural background did well where they pushed their kids in terms of education.

Comparing the Middle East now and the UK 40 years ago is never going to be a fair comparison, although it would be interesting to see who came in during the Blair years.

To live in Dubai, you need a visa and medical insurance, if you don't work you lose the visa, now that is a great plan.

Imagine if Dubai operated with a welfare state, you don't work we pay, you don't have medical insurance we pay, you have kids we will pay for their schooling, they would very quickly collapse.

Our immigration plan was poor from the start, we allowed in far too many uneducated and unskilled workers who may have been required at a certain time, but no plan was made for them staying and no plan was made should they lose their job.

Given the family business perhaps the shouty finger pointing and racism accusations are simply a ploy to deflect attention. All they’ll say is it’s all a lie. Framed, targeted.

Everyone with a few brain cells knows the true situation.
