I know it's the same story in Shadwell in East London, for instance.
Would it be possible for you to give, say, a two line synopsis of what that story is, please?

BBC have made it to Salford, at some point they may actually not keep taking the train back to London everyday.

I would recommend that people here take their time with the article and the iplayer video and you will see why the journalist deserves a standup round of applause for what is a high quality piece of investigative work.

As an aside the country needs an ethnic equal to Roger Cook and recreate a modern version of the 1980s cook report TV show set in the North East.

Reality/ technology has caught up with the Pakistani community. Years ago they had corner shops, taxis, wholesalers, market stalls. etc. They are due a readjustment in expectations, same as the rest of us.

I disagree

Places like Huddersfield, Bradford, Burnley, Blackburn and Oldham have very real social and economic problems, divided communities and cultural issues that are very complex and not found in most parts of the UK
  • Certain areas. There’s nothing wrong with my postcode.
Most of the trouble in Huddersfield is centred within a 1.5mile radius of the town centre.

I'd move back to Huddersfield tomorrow if my wife would let me. Fartown/Deighton and parts of Birkby and a couple of other bits are bad but the vast majority is stone built and nice.

Excellent article, and a very brave piece of journalism. Reading, you hope these communities have perhaps now turned a corner.

wkers will always be wkers.

I only watched a bit of it last night, and didn’t really understand why the father took part. He seems to be in a huge amount of denial about his little boy.

Nothing new about that sort of approach though. You pick any court any day of the week and, whatever the crime, whatever the evidence, there's often a family member(s) ready to jump to the defence of those convicted. It crosses all barriers; race, education class etc. etc.

I was perplexed by Mobeen's continual use of the word "sleepy" to describe a large town of 160 000 people
[ unless he meant his neighbourhood ] like it was bloody Brigadoon or something.

Fascinating insight into how urban Asian boys are no different to urban white and black boys in
being lured into the glamorous, exciting and very lucrative streetlife of drug trafficking.

Although I didn't quite glean from the doc if Asians themselves were the main customers of the dealers.

Don't call these idiots gangsters.

They are dealers. Nothing more. At best one rung, maybe two, above street level slingers.

fking idiots advertising their misdeeds on social media and wanting to be a 'face'.

Real people with real reach are the ones you've never heard of.

And even if you have, it's not because they are putting it out there themselves.

Two different worlds entirely, I can assure you.

Exactly. Let's see them held to the same standards as anyone else. Brooking10 and countdown would rather we didn't look to closely.

Bit harsh - I don't think they've ever suggested this.

But I agree that certain communities appear to be ignored when it comes to the enforcement of laws that the rest of us would be quickly pursued for. It's the same with travellers. Whether that's because the authorities are scared to target such people in case they're accused of racism (like sexual grooming gangs in it's early days, or forced marriage, FGM etc) or whether it's down to managing resources and going after the low-hanging fruit I don't know.

I was rather hoping they’d be brave enough to title the documentary “Whatever Happened To Stud Badboy?”

Huddersfield Daily Examiner interviewed his dad on their Facebook page a week or so ago. He’s still maintaining his son was as legit as they come. When asked about the machete found in his sons room he said it was just an ‘ornament’. When asked about the body armour he said they had someone staying over at their house briefly and he must have left the body armour behind lol.
I like to give people the benefit of the doubt but, given the CCTV cameras surrounding his house, and the company his son was keeping, and the machete, and the body armour, there comes a point when you have to accept that NOBODY can be that naive and/or deluded, there's really only one conclusion....

When somebody is so clearly as dodgy AF why don't police or HMRC look closely at their declared earning and assets and start asking questions?
Just quoting myself for the benefit of markcosnottz..... whistle
