I wonder how much crime, including knives/weapons is as a result of drug feuds. Needs to be a serous crack down/holistic approach to the problem.

A large portion of our shootings (fatal and non fatal) are gang related. People ripping each other off over drugs normally. Same with stabbings, gang on gang.

Has a charity not been set up in the dead mans name to help the scores of disadvantaged and alienated youths in the area
Not really up to speed on the deceaseds life story.

So was he a promising footballer?

Nice helpful, genuine guy?
His mum says he was a good boy
His mates say 'no ones perfect'
He was very helpful if you wanted to know where to buy a gun or drugs
Wouldn't any money raised by the charity, technically be proceeds of crime?

In years gone by it was the upscale area and home to the wealthy mill owners. How times have changed.

Excellent article - the local MP, the 'community' etc should be giving the guy a medal for raising these issues not condemning the bloke because they are embarrassed because of people shining a light on the issues facing their local area.

But had he not been a criminal and got shot, there would be no donations.
Ergo, the donations are a result of his criminality.

This guy must be a shoe in for the Paul Foot award next year (the journalist). Brave, truthful but undramatic reporting of problems kept under white societies eyes.

I didn’t find the journalism remarkable whatsoever. Brave yes. It’s stating the obvious.

I doubt his associates give a toss. One less mouth to feed. Leg up. All good.

It would appear to be a slow grind for the authorities.

I used to live in Taylor Hill and briefly on Newsome Road. I loved Huddersfield. Still have close friends there and visit them on a weekly basis. I'd live there again in a heartbeat.
Sheepridge was always the area with drugs and funnily enough had documentaries made about it in the 90s, even had riots IIRC, guess it is just down the hill a bit more, although it was probably was down the hill anyway.

I lived in Birkby as a student and for 6+years afterwards (knowing & having lived in Almondbury, Lockwood, Ainley Top & within ring road) have to say I loved it, had Asian neighbour's we speaked to and I have a mate who lives there to this day. Admittedly in a detached house, rather than in the nearby terraced and back to backs, I lived in.

I'd have no qualms moving back to Huddersfield and surrounds if I'd a big secure garage. :-)

The MP has some interesting social media stuff.
Basically its all the fault of central government the tories etc etc
This was posted way before the article appeared

He is definitely a head in the sand type who comes across as desperately trying to be seen as a big Corbynista

Yes that’s all well, good and understand.

Any monies given freely by misguided members of the public however are not “technically” POC

Were they then they could be seized

They can’t.

I moved to Huddersfield as a student, met my future wife, and when she got a job with the BBC in Manchester and I got a job in Leeds, Huddersfield seemed a logical place to set up home. We lived in Edgerton as students and bought our first house there before moving to Lindley where we are now. I have to say, I love Lindley, and Huddersfield as a whole isn't a bad place, there are unfortunately half a dozen areas that should be avoided and the town centre is suffering massively.

Often the case and it's usually only a small percentage of the people within those 'bad' places that ruin them.

When I was a poor Mech Eng student, I lived in Whalley Range for a year, which involved a commute (usually on foot) through Moss Side (then plagued with drugs shootings) and Hulme (then still in it's brutally impressive Stalinist Brutalist architectural phase). Never had a single problem.

Yeah, I had a friend who lived in Moss Side. We regularly used to walk home from nights out in the city centre, down Oxford Road, through Whitworth Park, to his house just off Princess Road, at daft times in the night/morning. The worst thing I saw was a young lad on a pushbike checking car doors! We both grew up in an affluent village in North Northumberland, so anything back then was a thrill.

True story. One of my then housemates was from Askrigg in North Yorkshire and, one day on his way to the launderette, apprehended some youths who were trying for force the locks on a VW Golf with screwdrivers. He was a big lad, but being from the sticks so a bit naive and asked them what they thought they were up to, to which one of them replied "nicking this car, what's it got to do with you?!" I guess these days he'd like as not have been stabbed.
