Numerous fake stories probably influenced the last UK election, 90% generated by the lefty twitter mob with direct links to the Corbyn machine and intended to smear the Tories.

But there is no uproar, strange.
This is because, at the next election, the Conservative party will unleash a social media spin department producing election bullst ten thousand strong. Largely made up of paid, professional Russian mobsters.

Labour will do the same, except they'll use teenagers in Newcastle.

Neither wants you to know this, as you might call bullst.

But if you think the fake-news-bullst was bad last time, I can assure you it will be off the scale at the next one.
I wouldn't credit the cons with having the ability to think of that....... they will still be nice but dim.
I can see the image now - Ms May trying to post on Twitter with a big button calculator.

Loved the way newsnight used stupid spooky music and whacky graphics to warn us all about these people.

Also I can't remember the media making a big deal about it when Obama used behavioural scientists as part of his campaign.

In unrelated news, Al Jazeera has been taken off the air in Israel.

I think we can expect a lot more censorship in future. They won't call it that, of course.

Except it hasn't (yet). Steps have been taken to close its offices and remove its reporters' accreditation. Israel is following the same line as Saudi, the UAE, Bahrain and Egypt, all of whom consider Al Jazeera supports terrorism and radicalisation and is a tool of Islamic State, Hamas, Hezbollah and Iran.

Good to see one of the strongest anti-Muslim posters on here standing up for the voice of Islamist radicalisation though.

I imagine people will soon forget a place like Israel exists...

The ethnic cleansing Israelis are carry out to forcefully exterminate palastinians will soon be forgotten.

It says the poster can't spell Palestinians and does not capitalise that proper noun.

Another example of Fake News - this time it was an experiment to determine how gullible social media users were..

Heres a good example of how easy access to too much opinion is harmful to society. People think they know about GM food when, apparently, they do not:

It reminds me of the old survey where Brits overestimated almost everything "bad" due to (presumably) media coverage of the unusual:

Don't know if anyone saw this story the other day about a "Christian child" being corrupted by evil Muslim foster parents. The Mail Online (of course) took it and spun it into something for their readership to be furious about:

The image they used to accompany the article was stock photograph taken in Dubai, and they even Photoshopped an extra veil to make sure it provoked the full reaction from their readership. Gotta keep that website traffic flowing.

The story was largely bks, if you compare the press version against the court documents:
https://tompride.wordpress.com/2017/08/31/how-the-...

And this is the problem. Trump is a moron banging on about Fake News, but how can you argue when the established press roll out this guff. When there's no clear distinction between clickbait like the above, and proper journalism, our free press - our best weapon against corruption - is catastrophically undermined.
