I was going on the overall total for both camps.

There does seem to be a serious North/South divide in the US (back to the 1860s).
yes, but the way you phrased it:
'It also required a massive effort by the Republicans to keep their decline to what it was. It's reputed to have been the most costly Congressional election in history'

Suggests that it was the Republicans that had thrown everything in including the kitchen sink for this campaign, when in fact, it was the Democrats, and they still lost, despite raising well over 4 times the amount of the opposition. Presumably, with so much funding, they would have had more ads, leaflets and people on the ground.

That being the case, how on earth can you say that this was a bad result for the Republicans?

(I have no love for any of them, BTW..)
About $20 million of outside money went into super pacs supporting Handel. The republicans spent a record amount of money to save a seat that should have been as safe as houses. This was Newt Gingrich's old seat. Price won it in a landslide. The GOP had a candidate entrenched in the local political scene facing a 30 year old. They shouldn't have needed to spend anything. As it was they threw millions at it and resorted to dirty tricks just to squeak a win. Doesn't bode well for them in 2018.

So from documents discovered this week.

You may recall that back on June 2 of last year, Speaker of the House Paul Ryan finally endorsed Donald Trump for the Republican nomination. While Ryan had been a holdout, questioning if Trump really was the right man to lead the Republican party in the 2016 election, something had obviously changed for him. It certainly wasn’t Trump’s words or actions, which seemed to have gotten more and more insane as time went by. So what could it have been? Money?

On August 29th, approximately three months after Paul Ryan endorsed Donald Trump, two of Trump’s largest campaign donors, Miriam and Sheldon Adelson donated a staggering $20 million to Paul Ryan’s super PAC, Congressional Leadership Fund. To put things into perspective, these donations represent approximately 40% of all the donations received by the Congressional Leadership Fund for the entire year of 2016. Ryan was paid big money to endorse a man that he was unsure if was fit to be President of the United States.

Drain the swamp indeed.

Yawn^. More BS.

Still no sign of a Trump backlash, despite the entire resources of the USA secret services and most of the MSM trying to vilify him.

You gotta laugh.

Yet more electoral success.

Is that the best standard of comment you can come up with.

It really does come across like schoolyard baiting.

A few grown up comments would be appreciated.

Mr. Nasty.

Are you actually real, or are you perhaps doing this for a bet?

And will you answer the question please, where was President Obama born?

Thanks.

Just watching his rally in Iowa.

You got to love Trump he's such a showman and a populist.

"Not only will we rebuild America, but we'll rebuild rural America. In this great national rebuilding we'll follow two simple rules. We will buy American we will hire American".

"Those seeking immigration into our country should be able to support themselves financially and not claim welfare for at least 5 years."

"Another core principal, those coming to our country must embrace our values and love our people."

My personal favourite.

"We're thinking of something unique, southern border, lots of sun lots of heat. We're thinking of building a solar wall, so it creates energy and pays for itself and this way Mexico will have to pay much less money! Panels, beautiful. Think about it the higher it goes the more valuable it is."

Yep, I can sort of see how he appeals to the very unintelligent. It's actually not funny though, he is hoodwinking them and they don't know better.

More BS? Really, documentation showing unusual large donations to Paul Ryan when he was wavering about supporting your precious one?
Nice to see your fox news link. Might as well use Breibart. And do we really need ot list the number of times Trump lies or creates FAKE NEWS himself?

Being "no fool" is a fairly low bar to have to get over to be President of the United States.

He's a genius. He has managed to create a scenario where he can talk directly to his supporters, as long as he says what they want to hear, truth or not they lap it up. He is a master at speaking to his crowd, a true showman.

In politics, only two things matter, the first is to get elected and the second is to get re-elected. He may well be a narcissist and a pathological liar, but he's no fool.
The really disturbing thing is easily his supporters are led by the nose. Whoever one supports, one should still be able to think critically about what one's preferred candidate/politician says. The same is true over here, unfortunately. People will accept a lot of tripe if it wrapped around something that they want to hear.

He is not stupid - but cleverness (even a limited form of cleverness) is not sufficient to be an effective or even half competent President.

There is no doubt that he has certain skill sets that have allowed him to have some success in portraying a particular image. And he has "sold" that image fairly effectively. These skill sets are the type that are commonly found in fraudsters and con men.

Unfortunately, being a successful con man usually has a limited shelf life. Most - indeed, probably all, con men eventually get found out.

As I keep saying, it's only a question of when this happens - not if.

Yes - I did say he was stupid. Maybe that needs refining - he's street clever but knowledge dumb.

There are many uneducated people who have "street smarts" and know how to exploit and manage their lives (and others) in a clever way.

That doesn't mean they are good, intelligent, wise, balanced or even sane.

I will still contend that his Presidency will end prematurely - and the end will come from his own hands.

Impeachment
Accidentally killing himself
Quitting

Is ill health "his own hands" I think his narcissistic personality makes him immune to stress related illness. He's convinced he's doing a great job.

Leave out the baby talk "Suck it up" nonsense.

And I don't need people quoting dictionaries at me.

Trump is an odious person and will get his comeuppance in some form or other.

I'm a firm believer in reaping what one sows.
