If you want stench you don't have to smell much further than the rotting pile of faeces currently residing in the White House.....

Having a quick read of the Paris Agreement it seems like a waste of time anyway.

Someone do correct me if I'm wrong as I'm not an expert but it appears that each country can set their own targets, there's no timeline for when they actually set those targets, they aren't legally binding, and they will incur no penalties or punishment if those targets are missed.

The best they can do is name and shame.

If global governments were really serious surely it would be more forceful than that?

If it actually mattered much there would be a global effort to stop burning stuff for electricity within a generation or two; there isn't so this agreement isn't really worth a bucket of warm spit.

Why did Trump say that the Paris Agreement gave China an unfair advantage over the US? I'd have thought that America would find it easier to wean itself off coal than China, Brazil or India.
He needs to get the pits open and coal fired stations for job.

That and Obama signed it and he seems to have a thing about Obama.

Yeah I read that post on Imgur/reddit as well wink

So if In the Paris Agreement, each country determines its own contribution it should make in order to mitigate global warming and there is no mechanism to force a country to set a specific target by a specific date, why withdraw from it stating it's hurting US businesses? Just set a different target altogether

I'm not on those sites...I actually just read the Wiki page on it as everyone was having a massive meltdown so thought it worth checking out.

Am I wrong?

pulling out of Paris agreement is a gesture, designed to please his supporters
but it's a gesture that will annoy everyone else, and please people like Russia, China and India who can now play the environmental good guys, without changing a thing

and another thing...
Trump says GOP 'tax bill is moving along in Congress' — even though it doesn't exist

Do you just lump literally everyone who acts or speaks in a way which is not supportive of Trump, who is not advancing his agenda, as an SJW soaked in liberal tears?
Nail. Head.

Anyone posting anything about Trump which isn't glowing praise is, frankly, a lefty bedwetter.

Indeed. His core support is from the rust belt, all those who followed the hillbilly trail out of the fields into the mines & steel works only to be marooned when the world changed. It gives lie to his repeated protestations not to be a politician, he's appealing directly to his power base with this & hang the consequences. Abdicating American leadership too, another backward step for the USA on the road to Sino Russian hegemony.

I agree with that. But, he campaigned on pulling out and was elected on that basis and under the Paris agreement you have to pay a lot of money to other countries (which they have to borrow to do). So maybe he's just taking the view of they can still do stuff to reduce emissions but spend the money in the US instead.

A long term win for us all if it means the end of the Paris accords - read them, they do nothing for the climate.

As Trump completely disagrees with the idea of climate change, he won't do anything to reduce emissions. If anything he'd probably want to increase emissions.

The first global agreement (except 2 countries) on climate change does nothing laugh

And yes, I do know that each country sets it own targets and timescales, etc, etc, however to get a global agreement on such a decisive subject which is then audited and verified is what I'd consider a good start.

Still, as the leader of the free world the USA could also say "fk it" just to take some heat away from the cluster fk he is preceding over.
