Trump isn't a career politician - he's a businessman and is used to dealing with other businessmen.
He's a TV personality first and foremost. He plays a business man on telly because that's the image he wants us to have of him.
It's all about his ratings. Constantly seeking attention, love and approval. Must have had a screwed upbringing...

Speaking of ratings

Seems the ask for voters details is a step too far for many states. This will have him frothing saying it is proof that the he had the popular vote.

I think there's some dodgy reporting. The Commission are only asking for information that is already publicly available. If it's not publicly available the States don't have to provide it.

But facts are irrelevant. Trump will use even the fact that a Commission has been set up as vindication of his position. He has been proven to be a liar countless times and has turned it around every time as proof of what he has been saying. And his supporters keep accepting it.

You know all those countries that we look down on smugly as being somewhat deficient in the marble department? The US is fast becoming one of those. Trump does stuff that we would expect 3rd world dictators to do....

Now concerns that they create a big pot of information that hackers and not the Russians will probably get hold of. Maybe they have it already.

Meanwhile Trumps favourite nutjob, Infowars and Alex Jones have had a guest that accused Nasa of kidnapping children for a sex colony on Mars.

Nasea has had to deny the claims...

Remember this is the site that some Trumpettes on here used as evidence that Sandy hook was staged, used actors etc

You can see why. Full names, addresses, birth dates, political party and, most notably, the last four digits of Social Security numbers. The commission is also seeking data such as voter history, felony convictions and military service records etc etc

Take a look at the letter: https://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/wonkblog/file...

Trotting out people called the same with the same birthday but in different states, people who are dead and not removed from the role (but with no evidence they voted). This isn't about finding issues, it's seeking detailed information that they can manipulate and use to justify the Donalds wildest claims, because he didn't have the most votes, the biggest ratings, that constant seek for approval.

Think the reporting is a result of the confusing ask more than anything. One comment in that link mentions a state law that will not allow it.

You are quite right though an independent perspective on the commission would be interesting. What they are actually asking vs breaches of privacy.

Edit. The Whitehouse Presidential Executive Order

It is truly ironic. A large element of Trump voters would be of the mind set that wants Washington to essentially "butt out" of their personal affairs and State affairs. In other words, they are very much anti "Big Government".

The President demanding such intrusive "big data" from the individual States is precisely the opposite of what many of his supporters would have expected from him.

Could a Presidential approved investigators not go to the states and investigate and report. No data collected.

Much easier to issue a dictat to the individual states making them do all the work and pay for the project.

I understand that from the Whitehouse document the investigators get no extra renumeration just expenses.

It may not be a job they want to do. I would hazard a guess that most of the people in the Trump administration are ideologically against the gathering of "government big data".

The truth is that Trump himself has no real "ideology" or indeed, principles. He is driven by very simple minded and simplistic forces i.e.-

to win,
to never apologise or admit error,
to seek aggrandisement
and
to seek self justification.
