Sending a poem in Scots to new borne babies seems contrived why not send it in Gallic with an English translation so they might learn something of the nations culture from birth rather than provide a badly written mess as an example of Scottish culture
Even fewer speak French. But your point is a valid one nonetheless.Gecko1978 said:
Serious question is Scot's an actual language because to me its a bit like speaking in Scouse or Geordie or perhaps Jafrikan (that thing white middle class teens do to sound street init).
Basically the language is English and you speak it badly - were the poem in Gallic I could understand but just writing it poorly with broken English seems a bit dim. A bit like SNP MP's givenig the oath in Scots its a bit like saying I can't read very well or talk very well. Where as giving it in Gallic might be more like saying actually I prefer to give it in my native language.
Anyway its just a question I never understood speaking in a way that was not clear etc
no such things as "scots" language wise. there are many local dialects though. as for speaking english badly, the most well spoken english you will hear anywhere in the world is generally heard in north west scotland ,imo. usually by those of scandinavian descent though Basically the language is English and you speak it badly - were the poem in Gallic I could understand but just writing it poorly with broken English seems a bit dim. Back on Topic I hope Angus Robertson looses his seat and if Salmond did that would be perfect I find both of them Odious. Ms Black on the other hand I think has come to realise politics live is not politics of her dreams and as such will be leaving Westminster anyway.

Aberdeen South for me, a good chanted going blue apparently
Aberdeen North for me, but Kirsty Blackman is predicted 48% vs. nearest being the Tories on 25%, so no real chance of an upset.. I'll vote Tory just to p*ss off my nationalist neighbours I was probably unnecessarily rude in hindsight
Ah well

Wikipedia says she's standing, so the fleshpots of that London were obviously too much of a draw to allow the tedious business of being a constituency MP to put her off.hidetheelephants said:

Holy ste! I've just been canvassed! For the first time in my adult life someone's chapped on the door and asked who I intend to vote for! The winged swine are clearly just around the corner...
Lucky you,all I've had is endless reams of paper, which go straight into the bin.Mind you Im in the same constituency I think, so maybe my time will come...if its the SNP I shall set the dogs on them(but they will just lick them to death)
And that poem, dear god its awful. The linked blog says that teachers are annoyed at having to teach 2nd rate Scottish lit rather than decent English stuff, but even the blessed Burns cant hold a candle to The Bard, so why read/teach stuff that looks like it has been written down like a drunken Glaswegian sounds?
Well that was interesting on BBC one. Felt Nicola Sturgeon took a bit of a hammering and I really like that when she avoided actually answering the question she was called up on it.
Audience asked a few questions I would ask her if I met her face to face. She didn't answer them very well making me even more certain that the SNP are just a mess

I agree, but I also think she did very well on the ITV interview at 19.30 this evening.Audience asked a few questions I would ask her if I met her face to face. She didn't answer them very well making me even more certain that the SNP are just a mess
Will the real Nicola Sturgeon please stand up, please stand up?

Scots is no longer a language, but has origins in Old and Middle English; a lot of the words in Scots 'slang' as you say are Old or Middle English words, so it's closer to English of old than modern standard English. You could see Nick Robinson relishing retribution - calmly stopping the audience, drawing the knife, plunging it straight into her chest and then twisting it slowly with a glint in his eye.Audience asked a few questions I would ask her if I met her face to face. They say revenge is a dish best served up cold and good old Nick certainly did serve up some revenge on Sturgeon and the SNP last night.

I don't know whether it's been discussed yet, but if Scotland does split off and re-join the EU, how are they going to afford all the things they need to do at home as well as contribute to the EU coffers?
NO NO NO.The SNP are fed up of having to leech off the English and want to leech off the Germans instead.

It's funny, we're at volume 8 and nobody's ever thought to bring that up. I think the intention is to be a net beneficiary, same as most of the others. Basically let Germany and France pay for our shiny new stuff. That's about as good an answer as you'll get out of any SNP drone.
