Funny how this thread has changed. As predicted, it's just left with people slagging off everything and anything to do with Scottish independence.

The GERS report was published today. Scottish public spending deficit reduced to £13.3bn which is 8.3% of GDP. Weaker fiscal position than rUK since the oil price changes.

Anyone seen Mr Salmond's show in the Fringe?
There is no, and there will never be, "Scottish Independence".

Scottish independence.
Is that even still a thing?
Oh it's still a thing, though the SNP would like everyone to think it's not a thing anymore after pissing everybody off in the last GE.

But you are mistaken! Apparently it was Ruth Davidson banging on about it constantly that was the problem. The SNP and their supporters just don't get irony, to the point that they will blame everyone else for everything, even down to deflecting their reason for existing and their primary stated aim in their constitution.

"The reason for the extent of our electoral failure wasn't that we want independence, it's that the other parties kept reminding the voters of our desire for it."

No st!

Is that it?

More flags than people.

No wonder wee Crankie is being very quiet at the moment.

In the words of a certain sitcom character

"Doomed, doomed I tells thee."

Cheers,

Tony

There were a few more milling around and a growing queue at the burger van but yes, that was pretty much it.

I've said forever if Labour get their act together independence is fked. I didn't expect that to be under Corbyn but I'll take it. Apparently the young, the ones the SNP were so desperate to include, are deserting them. Be careful what you wish for Nicola.

It's all over bar the shouting for Nicola and she knows it.

The SNP might surge again in the future but it'll take another Salmond-like figure to make it happen and it doesn't look like they have anyone nearly as charismatic and able waiting in the wings.

I saw Nippy being interviewed at the opening of the Queensferry crossing and she was talking about the draw that had taken place for the public to get a chance to walk across it before it opens to traffic (unlike the old bridge it is built to motorway spec and has no access on foot).

She called it a 'once in a lifetime opportunity' - you would think she would know better now than to use that phrase. biggrin

Quite a depressing article really and symbolises the problem with politics these days - huge swathes of the electorate are voting based on the "energy" of a political movement. Not policies, not economic arguments, not foreign policy, but "energy". Politics is being decided by emotion rather than logic - a dangerous place to be.

That's a well-worn argument for another thread, but basically it goes back to policy statements being empty promises designed simply to get voters on board, which is why they have become secondary considerations. When politicians are constantly telling lies then what else have the electorate got to go on other than gut-feeling?

Maybe we need a Cobynesque politbureau type govt again to show these young and new working class hero types just how bad and skint you'll be under the high taxes imposed to prop up failing nationalised services and industries as was the case for me back in the late 60's and early 70's under Harold Wilson etc..

The SNP, the party that campaign that people should have self determination have once again decided that the options of local people, local council, a public enquiry and the government reporter do not matter a jot.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-tayside-cent...

Nicola's mate Judy has got her way.

Nothing learned from the Trump golf course.
