Swinney was chosen to for education because he was the best SNP man for the job. Sturgeon staked her reputation on it and started on the right foot by dismissing the illiterate clothes-horse Angela Constance as Education Secretary and appointed probably the most popular SNP politician (Sturgeon knows this, Salmond would never admit it) in her place. Trouble is that he is the best the SNP have to offer, which amply demonstrates the dearth of political talent in their ranks, and he's been found lacking because he's not prepared to denounce the work of Mike Russell (education secretary 2009-2014), the true architect of Scottish education's path to failure because he turned the implementation of Curriculum for Excellence into a massive exercise in money wasting that actually left schools less well-equipped to deliver effective teaching and learning.

perfect summation of the situation. anyone in politics for the right reasons should be big enough to admit mistakes and attempt to fix the problems. the lack of people like this in politics today in all parties, not just the snp,is a huge problem, imo.

Scot Gov deliberately failing it's senior citizens

After last winters unmitigated disaster in NHS care in Scotland...

Ref.
https://www.heraldscotland.com/news/16985993.elder...

...ELDERLY and vulnerable Scots are been urged to get their flu jab after new figures showed a surge in deaths last winter to an 18-year high.
There were 4800 more deaths in the winter of 2017/18, which included the so-called ‘Beast from the East’, than in the preceding summer and spring...

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-45650823

A new flu vaccination that is recommended for everyone aged over 65 in other parts of the UK will only be available to over-75s in Scotland.

The Fluad jab is said to be more effective in protecting older people from three different strains of flu.

[b/]But the Scottish government said it had been unable to buy enough of it in time for this year's vaccination programme.[/b]

It will therefore only be offered to those aged over 75 this year rather than everyone over 65.

Fluad has been used in other European countries for several years, but was only approved for use in the UK at the end of 2017.

The jab has an added ingredient that is designed to create a stronger immune response - which is important for older people because their immune systems are often weaker and respond less well to some vaccines.

The NHS in England and Wales has recommended that Fluad is given to everyone over the age of 65.

But Scotland's public health minister, Joe FitzPatrick, told Holyrood on Tuesday that only people aged over 75 would receive it in Scotland, with the half a million people aged between 65 and 74 continuing to be offered the standard vaccination.

Differences in the way flu vaccines are ordered across the UK meant the supplier was unable to guarantee NHS Scotland sufficient supply of the vaccine for everyone over 65 in time for the start of this year's vaccination program, he added.

Mr FitzPatrick said the Scottish government had taken expert advice to prioritise the over-75s who will "derive the greatest benefit" from Fluad.

Flu vaccinations in Scotland are bought centrally, while in England and Wales they are bought by individual GPs - which Mr FitzPatrick said had led to vaccine shortages and variations in access in the past.

He added: "These are problems that we don't face here in Scotland."

Of course not.

You don't even fking bother.

The question is..why,, scratchchin

Apparently it covers 3 strains "this time".

When at Airbus Toulouse you used to get it on the company [bloody good idea] They use [or used more correctly I don't know what they do now] something similar, seems the UK has moved away from the generic limp wristed vaccination and now target multiple strains that they expect mutation from to be the greatest risk.

My partner works in care and has always been able to get it due to employment. Nurse {NHS} gave gave her a hard time for getting it on the NHS this year yes to her face, but as I have had run ins with this particular one before I was able to point out that shes a vocal Sep and if my [English] partner wanted to complain to the practice manager I'd back her up.........

Hey techno - 4 mins into the semi-final and we hear the Billy Boys (full version). Maybe you can re-issue that email about not using the offensive words, eh?

Scotland’s shame.

There’s been plenty discussions on this thread which have been way off topic.

Sectarianism. Unionism. Nationailism. I don’t agree that’s off topic.

By the way, when you say “Scotland's version of a common blight on a particular sport you mean” you’re wrong.

Bigger than football or any sport. It runs deeply into Scottish culture. That’s the problem.

Central belt culture you mean - please don't tar us all with that brush.

Growing up in the north east I didn't even really know about any of that crap until I went to uni. Despite nationalist attempts at putting us all under one flag, the cultures across Scotland are really quite distinct.

That’s a fair point. The West of the central belt have the biggest issue but it still creeps into the East.

Our generation will never going solve that issue. I only brought it up again to correct a lie told by Techno.

You brought it up as you have an unhealthy obsession with the matter which seems quite peculiar. There are lots of things in society that abhor the rest of us but we manage to keep them to the threads where they belong.

I still don’t know what point you were trying to make originally when you said I was on “thin ice” when talking about the hate crime adverts. Are you trying to censor the views of a certain part of society? Am I not allowed to share my views on the Scottish Government’s hate policies? I’m happy to discuss further with you as I fear you have a skewed view of me.

Talking about it in the context of football rivalry/tribalism is though, and moderators have made that point clear when it has debased the argument in here.

The clue is in the forum category.

If you've something new to bring to the party about the issue that categorises it as 'news' then by all means start a new topic about it in N,P&E.

If you just want to bump your gums about the same old rivalries then take it to the footie forum.

What was the lie? I'd love you to find the quote where I've said there is no bigotry. I pointed you to a video where people are clearly making an effort, but at no time did I say it no longer existed.

You're getting all pissy because you can't understand that others including myself couldn't really care less, but that doesn't make me a liar, so if you're going to say it, back it up or stop talking ste.

Anyway I think I saw there was a Survation poll recently about independence.

55:45 for “no” was the split.

In June 2014, they had it at 54:46 for “no”.

Is any progress really being made? Material change? Naw.

As with any polls time and again they have been proved often to be remarkably far off the mark, so going
by that I wouldn't read too much into the poll, however from personally speaking to many people on a daily
basis over the past few months it would appear there is very little appetite for another referendum from my
own observations.

Why would we anyway, we had one, we voted No.

After speaking with a couple of relatives who live in Edinburgh over the weekend, they both advised that if the SNP focused on doing a great job they would have a much better chance of success. They seem to have fallen into the trap of recruiting dross who cant deliver and blaming Thatcher/Westminster for all their woes.
