I thought there was a law against the grooming of children, he's calling a 16 year old boy 'cute' and stalking him on line.
Isn't the age of consent 16 in Scotland? So he's not a child; he can even vote in IndyRef!

Whether or not it’s sleaze .. it’s most certainly dishonest

I'll admit I whooped when I heard this news break on Radio Scotland. Closet Snat BBC political correspondent Brian Taylor nearly choked when he was told live on-air.

BBC Scotland is full of them. Probably think they’ll get lucrative jobs in the Scottish Central News Agency.

I recently complained about an article that stated that Scotland was an EU member. Of course I just got pish spouted back at me.

If he hadn't been found out he would be have actually been standing in Holyrood today as Finance Minister and delivering
a budget, whilst at the same time hiding a scandalous secret from us all.

You have to wonder how many more of them are hiding some dodgy involvement.

The uproar from them out be deafening if this was a Tory in a scandal.

Seems the SNP PR machine is going into overdrive.
Stories being removed is being reported on UAS.

Not a good start to the year for the SNP.

Scandal after scandal and bad news seems to haunt them.

While it is funny to laugh at them and their cock ups.
These cock ups are killing our economy and running our public services into the ground.

Alternatively it is none of our business. Providing each side knows, how is it "sleaze" rather than just an unconventional love life?

Sleaze means "immoral, sordid, and corrupt behaviour or activities."

Immoral? No, if the husband/lover are aware.
Sordid? No, if the husband/lover are aware.
Corrupt? I fail to see any corruption. Providing the house, etc is declared and is in the rules.
Doesn't look good when she's campaigning for LGBT rights and equality though does it? What message is it sending out to them. It's ok but it helps if you marry a powerful white man for convenience.

Just another SNP failure to add to the list, MacKay, Salmond ,Fergusson Shipyard, NHS, Scot Rail/First/Abellio, Named Person, Education, Reducing voting Age, Mental Health, Drug deaths, Sturgeon's public Jo Swinson celebration. They are absolutely rank and stink to the core. Many say they should get on with the day job but looking at the utter shambles the SNP are it would be a massive benefit to our country if they just cleared off and left things well alone.

No doubt the SNP Damage Limitation machine will now spring into overdrive to placate the dumbo supporters, Sturgeon meanwhile talking about all the significant work he has done for the government and he can only offer that he has let down his colleagues....Can you imagine if this was a Scottish Conservative, Labour, or Lib Dem MSP?, they would be shouting from the top of Arthurs Seat.

He's scheduled to give evidence at the ferry building fiasco enquiry shortly, I hope they still make him appear, after all he was the Finance Minister at the time and there are questions to be answered, isn't that right Derek.

Standing down as Finance Secretary is not enough, he should be sacked from his role as MSP immediately.
As has been noted frequently in the annals of this thread, the SNP are soft on dealing with sleaze and inappropriate behaviour within their own ranks. Openly bigoted sectarian John Mason is still an MSP, for example. Moira Shemilt is still a SNP councillor despite sending xenophobic messages to an (English) BBC correspondent.

However, I expect MacKay will take the decision himself because he will not want the continual public scrutiny of his private life.
That could be said of virtually any political party.
That isn't a credible response to my post 'burger. You condemned John Mason using exactly the same words that you have just used to condemn MacKay, so make your own peace with that one if you can bearing in mind both still appear to (at the moment) have the backing of their party.

Plus, IIRC Amber Rudd didn't even make it to the end of the day for a lot less. Other parties are generally swift to act on these sorts of things. The SNP stand out because they generally aren't.

The problem is his credibility is now shot. Regardless of what he says it will be in the context of his duplicitiousness and poor judgement. He's got to go and forget public office, forever!

ROFL!

As someone made the point in another thread, the Scottish Government abides by and has enshrined in law the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child which deems anyone under 18 a child. So while there may be no criminality uncovered so far it is accurate to report and state that MacKay has confessed to attempting to solicit a child.

Anyhoo - another potential source for the leak?!

MacKay it appears had few friends and made a lot of enemies lately.

I'm confused, are you defending his actions??

Whilst not illegal, his actions are completely immoral from a man in a position of power.

Although the age of consent is 16 it's an offence for an adult who is in a position of responsibility over a 16 or 17 year old to have sex with them. This is why teachers get done for it even though they would not be had they just known the child personally. Would this apply to him, being an MP, in these circumstances, I wonder?

Absolutely. 42 year old scumbags grooming 16 year old schoolgirls online is perfectly acceptable in the new Scotland.

The bigger issue here is that Sturgeon will now be watching her back. MacKay was her chosen candidate to be her eventual successor and while she has been obsessing about ensuring he wouldn't be taking her place for a while yet there are others in the party who have other ideas and are sensing the opportunity to clear the path for their own leadership bids.

Of course MacKay has been incredibly indiscreet but he could have been 'spoken to' well before now about his behaviour and choice of associations, plus the timing of this release is no coincidence.

There is someone in the SNP corridors of power currently thinking 'that's one out of the way!'

Given his proven financial skills, I'm sure there will be Multi Nationals queuing up to employ him to help them 'enter' the yoof market.
