Milliband, the other one, will already have a seat reserved from NYC to London for the 9th June...
I thought that ever so nice Tony Bliar was the only one who could save the Labour Party ? - I'm sure that's the impression he's been giving to anybody who would listen.Milliband (the proper one) is, I guess, their only serious hope.

He would be a good candidate.Milliband (the proper one) is, I guess, their only serious hope.
He has charisma, is a centrist and could craft a new vision over 5 years... but this is countered by the challenge that if the party loses as badly as polls indicate, he wouldn't be able to switch the vote that quickly - his best case would be a swing to Labour? Which would be his undoing... a transition leader like Hague, IDS and Howard?
Put another way... do you want to be the hero that puts out the fire in a castle, or the one that builds the new castle?
I think you guys might be equating DM with Kinnock by virtue of timing and following a no hope lefty (Michael Foot/Corbyn). People seem to ignore the fact that there wasn't really much new about new Labour, they were just a continuation and succession to all the changes Kinnock made. The 'new' stuff was little more than marketing bluff, any idea of 3rd way politics or some great new vision binned within weeks of taking office (look how long Frank Field lasted before resigning). The problem with Kinnock was he had an awful droning voice in interviews and lack of charisma that just bored people, the press loved to rip into him so he never really had a chance. I don't see a character like the older Milliband suffering the same fate, he could probably walk it in 5 years time.

But its not just the leader. Labour has a dearth of talent, look at the front bench. Labour lost all its big beasts and has not got any strength in depth in the squad. It will have even fewer after the election.princealbert23 said:
Why is it only left wing posters who develop this obsessive behaviour on some threads of taking everyone on and trying to always get the last word? It doesn't seem like a healthy thing to do.
It's because most posters on here are right wing. Anyone who disagrees with the masses is thus "left wing" and "taking everyone on" Good on them I say. Otherwise it would just be a right wing group therapy session with everyone agreeing with each other.

Ah, so the BBC has a therapeutic effect on us then. I may have to keep paying the "fees" then for my mental health.Good on them I say. Otherwise it would just be a right wing group therapy session with everyone agreeing with each other.
There is plenty of room for healthy debate on a forum (unlike CiF, FB Twitter or BBC programmes) and there are plenty of left wing contributors. I wont list them as i have better things to do. However when you go into double figures on contributions to a topic, especially if it isn't a long one, you appear obsessive.

If this was a left wing forum and everyone was saying how great and fair the BBC was, you might be the arguing, last word memeber of the outgroup all the ingroup members were saying was unhealthy.

There's not plenty of room for healthy debate in here,.left wing posters regularly get shouted down and insulted all the time. People clearly don't welcome their point of view at all. You only think they're obsessed because you notice them, their posts stand out as being against the flow.
There are many more tenacious right wing posters that always have to have the last word. That's not obsession though as they're possibly confirming your own views and biases.

I think you'll find its left wing posters who throw the most insults around. You only think they're obsessed because you notice them, their posts stand out as being against the flow.

The Brexit threads seem to bring out the worst in them. I had one northern builder offering me to drive to Yorkshire to fight him!

Not forgetting the dour unoriginal insults regularly seen from left field, regardless of rare invitations to fisticuffs. The thing about PH is that, unlike many alternative non-motoring media, the mods are looking at posting rules rather than ideology. This can at times give an impression there is more leeway given to 'tolerrant forms of expression' from the Left for the sake of some well-meaning aim for 'balance' gicen there are some posts that are trolling by any other name but remain on threads anyway. Not everyone will appreciate this but it's not our ball and the rules are enforced how mods see fit.

Zac Goldsmith just selected as Conservative candidate for Richmond Park a few minutes ago. "Zac's Back" etc.
So he can let us all down again? God help me....I'm sure Zac is an OK guy but a useless MP; why would I say that when I don't know him or live in Richmond? Because in my experience a good MP gets re-elected for doing a good job.
Having said all that I do hope he wins Richmond back from the Lib Dums.

One of the reasons - probably the only reason - why I stopped my Cons Party membership several years ago was a similar thing with Cameron, he just wasn't listening. A few knobs who really just weren't fit for purpose were getting selected for seats.

I think the general consensus was he behaved as a model constituency MP, very popular in Richmond but ran what amounted to a well documented dog whistle racist mayoral campaign against Sadiq Khan & came unstuck as a direct result in the by election which the LD's poured everything into.I'm sure Zac is an OK guy but a useless MP; why would I say that when I don't know him or live in Richmond?
