What a fool.

Overload the Easter / May period with even more bank holidays, at time of year when the weather is unpredictable at best. How to make business even more unprofitable.

What a desperate fool.

I'm all for more BH's, but spread them out & give us chance to enjoy them during the summer / early Autumn.

Hope he increases the holiday entitlement to 32 days including bank holidays, means I'll get another 8 days holidays, plus I cover bank holidays on a callout system so get them back as liue days, 12 days extra holiday!!!!

Can I have a million pounds as well please Uncle Jeremy.

I wouldn't let them have lasers, they're dangerous enough as it is.

For public sector many are on 35 days holiday anyway add in the proposed new total of 12 BH and they are up to 47days off a year.

That's 90% of every week of the year where they only work 4 day weeks! Plus flexi time too...

dumb

and the fkers on FB are lapping it up, citing we have the least public holidays of many countries and therefore we need more. It doesn't take 5 minutes of google to find that A) whilst we have fewer public holidays, they are kicked about so that we actually get them on week days (places like Germany not so lucky) B) That the UK and Europe in general have the highest level of total holiday days in the year due to minimum annual leave rules (the USA doesn't appear to have any annual leave rules!) and C) Some economists reckon on our current bank holidays costing the economy about £19bn a year.

While you're at it Jezza, I'd like a DB11 and some first class flights to Fiji.

Don't the USA have 10 days all in for annual leave? Over and above that it's unpaid leave.

What labour should focus on is the forcoming autonomous work where robots take millions of people out of work without anything for hem to do. That's a big issue and it's coming fast - Only the creative roles are safe (ish). How do we survive in a country /world where there are no jobs.

Let's say someone who is a cleaner store assistant etc robots take over those jobs. These individuals through no fault of their own are literally unable to train to upskill to a bigger better job. Those people are then on the junk heap for life. That's a big issue. Then think police men doctors accountants lawyers bricklayers etc all done by robots.

I'm not sure its a given though... more an un-written rule. You can pay for more holiday or negotiate as part of your package. Some places offer more holidays for those who work there a long time. A friend who works over in Texas told me he got two weeks a year, so 10 days, plus the public holidays when he started. He used to take more, but unpaid. He works hard and earns a lot so he can do that easily. Just looking now, many websites refer to it as a perk not a right. There are no minimum rules beyond having the national holidays off. I know its Wiki but:

"There is no statutory minimum paid vacation or paid public holidays. It is left to the employers to offer paid vacation.[159][160] According to the US Bureau of Labor Statistics, 77% of private employers offer paid vacation to their employees; full-time employees earn on average 10 vacation days after one year of service.[161] Similarly, 77% of private employers give their employees paid time off during public holidays, on average 8 holidays per year.[161][162] Some employers offer no vacation at all.[163] The average number of paid vacation days offered by private employers is 10 days after 1 year of service, 14 days after 5 years, 17 days after 10 years, and 20 days after 20 years.[161][164]"

20 years service and they still only just about get what we get as a minimum. At my job I get 27 days + bank holidays, I've only been there 2 months! By all accounts I think we've got it good.

You say *everyone* but obviously not bankers or rich people - that would be ridiculous.

This is exactly what the policy is meant for. "ooh, four days off extra! fab, he's not a bad bloke really".

Labour already know they can't win, they are just desperately trying to keep as many seats as they can.

The logic of it doesn't make sense - he moans about the poor struggling, wages not going up and zero hour contracts, then suggests extra holidays that many won't get paid for - at best people are going to earn the same as now. Economy losts £2bn per day, but Jezz says its ok as spending will increase by £1.2bn per day. So we're being paid less (or at best the same) but we're going to spend near on £5bn extra a year ?

The additional cost to employers will reduce the chance of wage increases and some employers might even look to redundancies to pay for it.

Of course the FB morons won't have considered any of that and will just bh and moan when they get their pay cut or there are no pay rises.

Still, 4 days extra off. yay. rolleyes

Colleagues in France seem to be hardly there in May.
