Does anyone know anything about stair lifts?

My 90 year old MiL is becoming more mobile and for all sorts of good reasons, doesn't want to go into a nursing home. She has a steep set of stairs at home (no bend in them) and I was wondering a rough cost of getting a stair lift and from which company.

My dad paid about £300 installation and then about £55 a month for his wife a few weeks back for a straight stair lift up 12 steps, mind you she died last week so it has to come out.

It was from associated stairlifts.

I paid £3.8k for my sons one iirc several years back but eventually he had a through floor lift put in so we junked it.

I think the one for my son came from a company called terry something or other.

ETA correct prices.

Do not buy from the nationals especially the one that you might have a name that resembles a nut.

They are the equivalent of double glazing sales men but worse.

Try to find a local firm and haggle hard.

If you want sell the lift it will be worth nothing even to the people you got it from.

PM me if you want more help.

Cheers for the replies.... this is in Surrey, near to Camberley.

It's from the hallway up a narrow and steep staircase - a straight run.

I could tell from some Googling that it's a bit of a shark pool - it seems these national companies are, as someone commented above, a bit like double glazing sales people. That's why I wanted to ask here as I don't fancy giving my email and phone details out to sales people.
