I am looking at getting an R Estate smile Nothing available to test drive at my local dealer so I drove pre facelift GTi PP DSG which was on 18" rims. I really liked the car (unaccompanied and long drive!) and found the ride quality to be absolutely fine. I then tried an Octavia vRS DSG hatch on 19s and the ride was definitely a bit too choppy on some of our typical road surfaces. Both had no DCC. I know the R has stiffer springs than the GTi so my question is how will a non-DCC R on 18" Cadiz wheels ride relative to the two cars I test drove? (I have picked too many options and wonder if I can save the £830 that DCC costs!)

My mk7 R estate is on 18s with DCC. If non-DCC equates to normal in DCC mode then the ride is fairly harsh. I guess harsh compared to comfort mode. My car came on Bridgestone Potenza's which according to people on VWROC are pretty awful so am changing to Michelins which get rave comments.

I can't comment on the GTI since my only choice was the R hatch vs the estate and am happier with the estate. Still an R and quick and better looking in my view and also spacious, flat loading bay etc.

I would go for DCC though. Is nice to change between comfort, normal and race.I chose loads of options too. I think the leather seats are a waste of money so dont bother. Pano roof many seem to want but I didn't as i dont care, with or the Pretorias. I specced pretty much everything else though.
