With the recent history of getting pulled up on basic facts, you'd think there would be some sort of memo going around labour HQ to actually write down all variations of the key numbers and how it was going to be funded if you are going on LBC, wouldn't you....
it's all a function of labour operating in some sort of a weird echo chamber, you see it with corbyn only standing in front of cheering crowds of acolytes and not a mixed bunch of general voters, he's just not interested in hearing dissenting voices.
their ideologically driven agenda is simply not thought through or costed on any level, it's terrifying to think that anyone thinks that they are fit for public office

Perhaps all those people taking the piss out of Angela Rayner this morning should first walk a mile in her shoes.

Become a politician? No thanks, I have no wish to lie plausibly and generally deceive the electorate by being whipped (ouch) on something I know is inadvisable or simply wrong just to toe the line...something which I would need to fake some support for if asked. Also the pay is pants in terms of the job (done well) at every level.<cough>
FWIW I've been interviewed on 5 Live and Radio 4 with hostile questioning so I know what being interviewed live on air is like, and how interviewers have as much reptilan DNA as politicians.
Politicians and presenters are a fair match in that sense and it's a blot on the politicians' copy book that interviewers reveal basic failings. Still, I'm not a politician and never would/will be.
Questions an interviewee is led to believe will be asked are in fact often not asked, and responses are cut off before the interviewee has finished, then the editing starts. It's all par for the course and if you put yourself up you should be fully prepared for anything.
No sympathy for Abbott or Rayner here.

As at least one other has said many of us have been interviewed at some point so know what it is like and how tricksy interviewers can be - some of us may even have been interviewers...<cough>
The fact is though that almost all with common sense would never stoop to the level of being a politician, and for some very high on the list of why not to is because they know that they would not wish to be subjected to these sort of interviews. On that basis I say if you step into a Lions den you better know how to handle a lion unless you want to prove your are a bloody idiot and get eaten by one.
