Angela Rayner skewered by Nick Ferrari

Whilst I respect her for getting as far as she has with no education, it doesn’t change the fact that she is completely uneducated. In my opinion this makes her completely unsuitable to be shadow education secretary and actually makes a joke of the position. She hasn’t even got a GCSE to her name as far as I’m aware.
I'm no fan of hers, but where do you draw the line? I know some very bright, successful people with poor GCSEs, no A-levels, etc. Turns out they were mostly failed by the schools (undiagnosed dyslexia, etc).Dr Jekyll said:

Playing devil's advocate though, you don't need to be an ex convict to be in charge of the prison service.vaud said:

+1 Some of the brightest people I know have few if any qualifications.
But having barely gone through the education system at all would arguably be an issue for an education boss even if she was bright, which she certainly doesn't appear to be.

She obviously has the grit to get places, and I am not bashing her for that. I do find it somewhat bewildering though that she goes into many interviews without a clue what she is talking about and with seemingly flagrant disregard for her job and the people working for her.
Ok, fine, in the OP you can say that Nick Ferrari is a belligerent tw@ and that he held her up on what some might see as a "minor" issue. But, if I was her I would be doing overtime making up for the fact that I am completely out of my depth by making sure that I was absolutely clued up on the absolute basics of what I am trying to persuade people is a good idea. In all the recent interviews I have seen her in, she's just a nasty, uninformed, judgmental piece of work to be honest.

The problem I have with her is that she almost wears being uneducated as some sort of badge of honour. It isn't actually cool to be uneducated, or think that it is cool to be uneducated when you are an adult. It also isn't a good idea to suggest publicly or to children that you don't need to go to school to get places. It's one of the worst ways you can set your child up for disillusionment later in life when they realise nobody will employ them, or that they could've done better at school. I didn't work hard at school, and I am lucky that I can muster it and eventually came out OK. I will never ever tell that to my kids though. Angela Rayner has actually started interviews with responses like "Well I left school with no GSCEs". It's a joke.

I don't disagree; I was playing devils advocate in part. I don't think she is fit to be the shadow, let alone the actual education secretary.I also know a handful people with no GCSEs or limited education who have smashed it at life (not talking necessarily just in financial terms) so it doesn't discount you from anything if you have the grit. Totally agree - she also does not appreciate that the world has changed from the barrow boys like Sugar and Branson who made a fortune with two carrots and a chestnut - it can happen but these days it is far, far harder and kids generally need qualifications to get on.I also know a handful people with no GCSEs or limited education who have smashed it at life (not talking necessarily just in financial terms) so it doesn't discount you from anything if you have the grit. My wife is a teacher, a bit of a lefty and aghast that Rayner keeps going on about having no GCSEs like some medal, even more so that she could be in charge of education in this country.
My personal opinion is that she's thick as pigst from everything I've heard her say and write. Her background would suggest she's got nothing about her - a shouty union type who has been promoted far, far above her ability. She is also that dangerous combination of dim coupled with ultra-left ideology and occupying a potentially very powerful position.

Good post though I feel Branson is less of a barrow boy than Sugar. Nail. Head. A total mockery and disrespect of the education system to have this person anywhere near being in control of it.Zetec-S said:

Very arousing, have you ever considered writing erotic fiction? She playfully ran her fingers through her ginger fringe, whilst the momentum activist nibbled at her

Ten years ago I worked for several months in my local Jobcentre, which was actually really rather good. I was a special advisor to long term unemployed. One day I was chatting to a "customer" and he was saying to me that his biggest regret in life was dossing around in school, not doing his homework, thinking it was cool to skive off or not turn up, cheek the teachers etc. I remember him saying "and look at me now; here I am".
