Whist I won't disagree with your assessment of her as a "vacuous, clueless cretin", I would point out that she is a graduate of Cambridge University with a degree in history - and so is likely to tick lots of diversity boxes with some ease.(That’s not an insult....it seems to be fact).

I think it is more than that. How many youngsters genuinely follow politics? And more importantly scrutinise the economic side of politics?
Then when we get to the age where it starts to really concern us we why do so many Labour voters swing to Conservative?

We are far more rigorous in the process of determining who can sit on top of a giant firework and get flung into space than we ever are with selecting who determines the fate of the nation. 'Democracies have leaders without proper skills or morals and that it is quite unlikely that the best equipped to rule will come to power' to paraphrase Plato.Quite surprising.

Well, you could almost argue positive discrimination...but that's really clutching at straws when you have Angela Rayner as shadow Education sec and Emily Thornberry as shadow Sec of State. Besides, the cream of graduate talent tends not to go into teaching as not lucrative/respected enough.
