When I went in the early 80's it was a CND festival, in them days it was a fraction of the size and I seem to recall Bruce Kent making a speech(CND chief) so it's always been left leaning and in them days quite insignificant politically but of course it's ripe now for likes of Corbyn and Mcdonnell to milk it for all it's worth, the BBC are in their element hence the money they throw at it, it could be said that the BBC have made it into the huge festival it now is.
Wonder if Comrade Corbyn agrees with the money the BBC pays Chris Evans, Jo Willey and Mark Radcliffe to be at the Glastonbury Festival?

The festival is a totally business orientated operation now and just trades on its "image" from the past.....

Bearing in mind what's amongst that lot, it's got to be £50 an hour for anyone cleaning up that lot especially the amount of money Eavis makes out of the event.
I would think they sweep most of it up with road sweepers.
IIRC it's all done by hand; lots of them.
£800k clean up bill apparently.
They take in a load of volunteers- free passes in return for picking up Litter.

Should they not be paying a minimum wage? Say 10 groats an hour or whatever it is?

1000's are perfectly fine......you do not know what you are talking about and cannot imagine what quantities of such items there are....have you worked post festival on clean up ? (I am down there tomorrow fyi)

If all you want to do is have a pop at me fine, but please admit that rather than use a proxy conversation to do it....
Tents which are still "functional" are usually auctioned off in local community centres for a few quid in the weeks after. Missed out on a decent one last year. Amazing what some people just leave behind because they can't be arsed to take it down or think it's not worth keeping.

Most equipment such as Tents, sleeping bags are not.....nobody has the time to strip them down.

last year 300+ Sack Trucks were scrap metal for example...I cannot think how many chairs were in the recycle "big" bins.......the waste despite the small efforts is massive and this is (?) 80% down to those who attend not giving a single st...

When we went in 2011; leaving early Monday morning, trudging across the Pyramid stage area, it was all quite and really eerie, cloudy with a light mist in the air, both myself and the wife were shocked with the amount of rubbish, it also smelt like the local tip.

Our local scout group gets to clean up after Reading. Lots of re-usable tents and chairs are gathered up and then either used by the group or sold off to provide funds.

Also mountains of undrunk alcohol and also drugs. Alcohol is gathered up for personal use, drugs are provided to police.

Someone mistook it for garbage and there's currently a bunch of people looking for it in the West Country I'm told.

You're an MP, dear, it comes with the job.

Didn't hear you condemning the abuse piled on Margaret Thatcher when she died.
