Steve McCabe is hardly known in his own constituency, Bojo getting bricked on the other hand would have quite the reaction.
You're right.

All the lefty types would be out celebrating and hoping he dies of his injuries.

Someone like Saint Jez or another "soft on poor ickle criminals" Labourite on the other hand... would be interesting to see what they would say

^^^^^ This. 101%.

These are nothing but utter scum, and should be rid off. End of. Gone. Vermin. Worse than rats.
But no, the do-gooders will be up in arms. Their naïve consciences would not allow them to sleep at night. These poor misunderstood just need some help. Yeah... a chair, rope, neck, kick chair away.

FFS, a 52 year old woman, the way she was flung round (initially, I thought the low-life was after her bag, but no, her gold necklace (how did he/they know it was gold?) with which he flung her round to the ground.

Utter, utter, fking scum! Poor woman, has to live with this forever.
If a middle aged woman of Indian/Pakistani/Bangladeshi origin is wearing a necklace it will most likely be a real gold one as opposed to being gold plated - it's a cultural thing. When I lived in the NW the local papers were always full of warnings from the police about crime gangs targeting asian families for their gold.

What hope do the police have of catching these scumbags? With helmets on it seems a waste of time to even publish descriptions of them.

The police are looking for three suspects. The first is described as male wearing a black crash helmet, white shirt, a dark blue jacket with grey trousers and black shoes.
The second suspect was wearing a black crash helmet, blue shoes and a grey tracksuit with white stripes. The third suspect was also wearing a black crash helmet, a grey hooded top, dark trousers and white trainers.

Why are they called mopeds? Aren't they scooters?

mopeds = motorized pedal bikes
scooters = things with two seats and loads of badges and mirrors.
Some scooters are mopeds - no more than 50cc and top speed limited to 28mph/45kph. The limit was 31mph/50kph until a few years ago when the UK adopted the EU definition.

They haven't had to have pedals for about 40 years. smile

You would think that if the manufacturers wanted to, and customers were willing to pay, then they could come up with something much more innovative.

For example they could embed permanent gps trackers into the bike at the factory, or they could add immobolizers/remote stop etc, sensors for unexpected body weight changes (like cars do to adjust settings per driver) and who knows what else.

Just make it difficult enough to reduce the thefts to proper professionals as opposed to any 14 year old with a bolt cutter/grinder.
Yamaha have an onboard tracker to a version of their new maxi scooter, the T Max, which is a grand more than the standard version.

I rode bikes for 35 years living in London. Never worried about theft. My only bike that went missing was stolen in France in 1988.

The last few years of owning a nice bike was a mare though. Constant theft attempts meant I was spending thousands in repair bills.

I got rid in the end and got a knackered looking old Vespa with a big engine. I would love something newer and nicer but it is just not worth it.

Ironic really, enough money has been spunked on car battery research to run a medium sized country for 30 years, we still don't have properly useful car batteries, but we do have very effective cordless angle grinders.
Odd post!
Not really. It wouldn't have happened years ago because you can't carry full size bolt croppers easily on a moped. Plus people didn't have phones to grab. Not only that the thin cutting discs weren't available either.

Charity worker Abdul Samad, 28, stumbled to the front door of his block and buzzed for help after he witnesses said he was attacked in the street for his mobile by thugs on a moped.

His devastated brother, Abdul Ahad, told how his parents rushed to help him as he lay fatally injured outside his home in Little Venice.

He was taken to St Mary’s Hospital in Paddington, where he was born, but died an hour later.

Mr Ahad told the Standard how Mr Samad worked for charity Dragon Hall Trust helping young Londoners develop their computer skills.

^ Pointless waste of life.

It will not get any better:
- The police are underfunded
- The police themselves worry about getting prosecuted if they arrest somebody and something goes wrong
- British people in general like to self-congratuate about low crime while laughing at Americans, therefore this can't really be happening

Interesting that they caught the ones who attempted to take George Osborne's phone! So become a VIP and your crime will be solved!

Don't worry, the police have got this ... they're on top of it ... they will be "putting up signs" any day now.

Cafe owner wants the police to set up traps? Piano wire stretched across the road at shoulder height should do it?

It wouldn't seem too difficult to set up a 'customer' on the pavement with a mobile - Or would that be entrapment of the poor dears?

This "pillar of the community" has been mentioned in this thread a few times. Police officers who followed (note: not chased) him on his scooter finally found not guilty of misconduct after he crashed it.
https://www.bikerandbike.co.uk/police-officers-fou...

So maybe things can move on now with regards to stopping scrotes committing crime on mopeds.
