Is it fair to say that any time you see two people on one moped, they're up to no good?

No, I think the majority of the time you see two people on a moped, it is just two people on a moped.

There are some giveaways that it is crooks on a stolen moped, such as:
- one or both with no helmet
- wearing balaclavas
- riding like retards
- no plates

Somebody pushing a moped or any bike without the engine running, there is also a good chance that it is stolen.

They're not on mopeds
These bikes can have a 400cc motor
Flying armchairs I call them.
You've only got to look at these bikes that have a pillion rider
They invariably have their faces covered in the helmet
Too stupid to wear gloves.
Look at the guy at the controls in the video where the necklace was snatched.
They just look like they need pulling.
However you try and pull one
They're off.
I ride a gs1200 Adventure, they're not that good at riding. I've hears sirens behind in traffic and watched mopeds speed off through red lights. That Brazilian video sums up the capability of the majority of these thugs. All bravado, no talent.
Put the old bill on BMWgs400s
They'll catch all of them.
Boot them off and taser them
Boot them off and cover them in some kind of indelible paint
Boot them off and shoot them with a bean bag gun
The old bill could catch them if we kitted out a decent squad of guys.
Mugging some old Indian bird for her necklace.
That just about sums this lot up.
How anyone can support their actions in any way needs their head examined.

It's not about police equipment. The police already have a lot of equipment and they could get a lot more, but it would make no difference. The chance of being caught if you are a moped criminal is very, very low and moped criminals know it.

I don't know what you do for a living, but I'm guessing if your day to day work could land you under investigation for years, fired or prosecuted, then you would try to do as little as possible. Don't expect the police to do any more.

@ twiggy.
Stop making it sound like the 80s was some sort of Mad Max era.
Good times.

I said there were riots in the 1980s (there were). I didn't say there was general lawlessness.

I like this total bullst the Met put out. I'd love them to give even ONE verified real example where any of the following have been used with moped criminals:
Met said:
"The methods include deploying remote-controlled spikes, DNA tagging sprays and slimmer police motorbikes."
Met said:
"Remote-controlled "stingers" are being used to puncture the tyres of suspects' vehicles, while smaller motorbikes which have no panniers allow officers to pursue suspects through busy narrow streets"
liers.

I know of twice in the last week where stingers have been used. The last being sunday when there was a big gang out.

If that’s true I take it back (I don’t know if you are a copper?). But having seen how difficult it is to get stingers in place for cars I am sceptical they can be of any use with mopeds where it is impossible to know what route they may take.

I'm a copper and we were on an operation last night targeting a Halloween 'ride out'.

We were authorised to use stinger and also had DNA spray.

Can't speak for everywhere but we had a few out and about. Certainly not the armageddon we expected though.

that stinger thing will be interesting if they fall off but should stop them skidding too far as it digs in lol.
Hopefully pm may and her band of dimwits have got the message that commerce is at stake as people give up
buying nice things and move away from the city just leaving all the dross.

Is it not possible to use tazer on the muggers? I guess if they have biker clothing on it may be ineffective.

Should have 'rested' him on the nice spiky fence rather than the car bonnet until the police finished their donuts showed up.

brilliant, more of the same please.

I particularly liked this bit

'The three guys arrived and grabbed him and hit him badly. Then they tried to keep him still.
'From this point I recorded. They still hit him several times, as you can see, to make him stay still

Cops took 20 minutes to arrive, Jeez!

Reminds when me and my cab driver saw a woman on her motorbike hit by a car.

We stopped and the driver tried to get away but we stopped him and pulled him from the car. He was so pizzed he could barely stand.

He was big so the cab driver sat on him whilst I called the cops. I was put on hold??

By now the driver's friends from the estate opposite had turned up and were trying to free him.

The police may not have taken 20 minutes to turn up but it did feel like forever at the time.

The ambulance for the lady was much quicker.
