I think it has happened, but a lot of the girl racers went mad, saying it was unnecessary and just created more of a divide.
Indeed they did. And I am against the idea of it too.

By all means encourage female racing drivers. Give them bursaries and scholarships. Give them the breaks they need to break into a male-dominated sport. But making a women-only series is patting them on the head and saying "There there, dears. You go play racing drivers in your own make-pretend series and leave the proper racing series to the men".

David Coulthard, who backed the new series, said he believed "men and women could compete on equal terms in motorsport", and completely failed to see the irony in that statement.
When I added proper car racing (aged 14) to my karting, the class I raced in was the “Ladies, Juniors and Novices” class. Or as I would learn quickly, the 1000cc maximum and no possible reason to trust another driver not to do something stupid class.

We seem to have moved on a bit these days by the look of things, and in many cases, on merit. Kids like Vercrashen in F1 at 16, and Danica Patrick (while maybe not quite setting the world on fire as much as young Vercrashen) as a couple of prime examples of what I would suggest is merit.

Cathy Newman is a terrible interviewer. Don't let that confuse you into believing JP isn't full st.
Cathy Newman is the best thing that ever happened to Jordan Peterson. She gave him immediate credibility and loads of exposure. She made him into an alt-right poster boy with that interview, in the UK at least.

That George Smiley is so very late to the game with linking JP is not at all surprising. Doubtless George will now start with the "so what you're saying is" which was Noodle's favourite catch phrase when the video first came out.

I think JP usually makes very salient points, once you realise where he's coming from. In some ways the interview was bad for him as it made him an alt-right poster boy which he isn't, being a liberal (classical) an' all. But hey, it's perception that counts rather than reality. His 'set up for combat' debate with Slavoj Žižek on Marxism turned out to be more a civil conversation between two polar opposites, something rarely seen in this era, and credit to them both for that. He can be a bit catastrophic though, granted.

Anyway, yeah, a bit late in the game perhaps smile

I just got called "sir" in Tesco Express today. I had been under the illusion (or, rather, delusion) that I looked pretty feminine.

I didn't have a rant, I didn't blow a gasket. I didn't even say anything. I just feel depressed now that I didn't pass as female.

That's the reality of being transgender, despite some of you thinking we're all screaming radicals intent on locking people up for hate speech.

*sighs*

We’re you presenting as a female as you pointed out sometimes you go dressed as a man as it’s easier

Sorry to hear that, CC.

People sometimes don't realise just how much one's identity means to an individual. It's an integral part of well-being.

Sorry, I probably should have clarified. I was presenting as female as I was just on my way home from lunch with friends. Full makeup, dress, bewbies, necklace, earrings, everything.

It's not being called "sir" rather than "madam" that was depressing - it just means 'customer' after all - it was the fact that even presenting as female I triggered the "male" response.

No rancor was intended by the checkout girl - it was just a clumsy mistake on her part. Doesn't make me feel any better though. frown

Not upset (or angry) as such. Just feeling a bit down about it. frown

I should hope not, Tesco can be bad enough to visit without.

Indeed.

But on a brighter note, I posted about it on Facebook and several cis-female (apologies, but the distinction is germane here) friends replied that if its any consolation, they get that too from time to time.

That actually is some consolation.

Yeah and quite right too - a silly mistake - I see how it would be a bit of a pain, chin up CC.

For a bit more consolation you must be doing okay for this to be a rare event that stands out.
If I ever develop any trans leanings I'm screwed, I am fk ugly.

Teams of beauticians, fashion designers, hairstylists and make-up gurus could work day and night on me and not even the most myopic of check-out people would ever mistake me for a woman.
Another bloody avenue closed down!

Have a glass of wine and relax CC, it's Friday night and apparently it'll be sunny on Sunday.

In fairness, maybe I said "hello" before she looked up and my voice gave her the wrong cue. Maybe. I dunno.

I feel a lot better now. I probably should have refrained from posting about it here.

Still, perhaps it gives a little insight into how most trans women really react to being misgendered. It's not all rants and confrontation - just quiet unhappiness and disappointment.

Maybe if she wasn't sure (or educated around the matter) she should have left out any gender terms, IE simply sticking to 'hello' or 'thank you', instead of adding Sir. It may be an idea to feedback the experience via their head office website. Not to be an arse, but the correct staff education could stop it happening to further individuals.

I must admit I had to use my frontal lobe* a bit, but yes, it did give a bit of insight.

[ * The frontal lobe gives pause and prevents 'biting', allows you to step back from the immediacy of experience so you can both manipulate (Machiavellian) and empathise (Erasmian); something people don't use enough...]

Funny you mention the frontal lobe mine stopped functioning properly following a brain injury makes empathy a challenge at times
