The Future of Power Generation in Great Britain
Discussion
Here is an analysis and subsequent discussion about electricity storage requirements for making optimum (or indeed much) use of wind and solar renewables whilst covering their intermittency challenge.

No matter what your views and opinions, whether informed by working in the energy industry in one form or another or just because you have an interest in the subject matter it should make an interesting read and produce a few comments on all aspects.
Enjoy.

There's no disputing this analysis.http://euanmearns.com/grid-scale-storage-of-renewa...

Battery storage technology breakthrough?
Fisker claims battery capacity for 500 mile range ans a 1 minute charge.
https://electrek.co/2017/11/14/fisker-solid-state-...
and many other sources of that report.
Now that would be quite revolutionary if it could be applied to all forms of electric storage.
Interestingly the Tesla Semi launch unexpectedly suggested the same range for the truck even when hauling a load.
Ok, so double the batteries - it's a truck after all?
But if I read it right they make the same claim for the proposed new roadster. Could they double the batteries for that too? Seems unlikely from a design and performance perspective.

Some bad news for the renewable energy troughers.
Renewable energy project developers have been dealt a huge blow as the government said there will be no new subsidies until 2025.
Looks like the government have come to their senses at long last
and realised that all the subsidy gravy train has been doing is driving more and more people into fuel poverty.

Wow, I never noticed before but it's all the same crowd of naysayers on this thread too. Is there a clubhouse somewhere?
Do you people not have to work?
like you didn't know that. just trying to work out what your previous user name was. someone else will probably work it out before me though.Wow, I never noticed before but it's all the same crowd of naysayers on this thread too. Is there a clubhouse somewhere?

They said -
"Solar Trade Association spokeswoman Leonie Greene said: "We believe solar can win effectively subsidy-free CfD contracts today, so we now hope to see clean power auctions for established technologies resume on that basis."
Renewable Energy Association head of policy and external affairs said: “Whilst the announcements for electric vehicles are positive, the UK government seem to be turning their back on renewables by announcing no new support for projects post 2020 and a freeze on carbon taxes.
“This could see a hiatus in much needed infrastructure development. Considering this is coming only a couple of months after the much vaunted Clean Growth Plan, it’s hugely disappointing.”
Scottish Renewables chief executive Claire Mack said: “The UK government’s budget is the first since the publication of its Clean Growth Strategy, but the opportunity to deliver on the aims and ambitions of that document has not been taken.”
RenewableUK chief executive Hugh McNeal said: “The renewable energy industry has a little more certainty than it did this morning.
"While this is welcome, what is missing is the ambition to take full advantage of the UK’s global-leading renewables industry at such a crucial time for our country.
"Onshore and offshore wind are the cheapest options for new power in the UK and support thousands of jobs across the country, while our marine renewables and floating offshore wind sectors offer new industrial opportunities for the UK to be a global leader”.
The government meanwhile said it is "confident" that the UK carbon price is set at the right level and “will continue to target a similar total carbon price until unabated coal is no longer used.”
The UK will spend £400m on electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure and £40m on charging R&D on top of £100m of grants for the purchase of EVs."

I don't care if solar "can win effectively subsidy-free CfD contracts" because it makes zero contribution to power demand as it needs constant back-up.
The REA say "it's hugely disappointing".
Scottish renewables: equally negative as is RenewableUK.
As for EVs, what's the use of a car that, when it's run out of "leccy", has to be parked up for hours before continuing / finishing a journey?
