UK public support green taxes to achieve net zero, survey finds (Financial Times)
"A clear majority of the British public support the idea of green taxes and think the government should increase spending to address environmental issues, a new survey has found. The nationwide poll by Britain Thinks for the Green Alliance think-tank found that nearly two-thirds of the public supported taxing environmentally damaging behaviour and ranked the environment the third-most important priority, after healthcare and jobs. Campaigners said the findings, published days after Boris Johnson toughened UK emissions targets by pledging to reduce them by 78% by 2035 compared to 1990 levels, should embolden the government to take difficult steps towards turning targets into reality."

With a quick google I couldn't find a link to the actual survey and actual questions asked. Would the public support net zero if told it would cost them £20k per house for heat pumps and insualtion to abolish gas boilers?"A clear majority of the British public support the idea of green taxes and think the government should increase spending to address environmental issues, a new survey has found. We already have green taxes. Massive taxes on ICE cars compared to tax free EVs.The public view on increased green taxes can be judged by the reaction any time fuel duty is increased.

We have taxed ICE fuel for ages and the tax in not hypothecated in the way you describe. We already have green taxes. Massive taxes on ICE cars compared to tax free EVs.The public view on increased green taxes can be judged by the reaction any time fuel duty is increased.
At some point the loss of revenue from Fuel will need to be made up from other sources.
Surely if the payback for efficient heating is relatively short then it would be a wise government investment particularly as interest rates are so low.
I have a 105m2 apartment with ground source heat pump and vent. Total cost all in for all services including TV, broadband, common area maintenance, heating, cooling and vent is about €150/ month.
The UK have a bit of catching up to do.

Yes, in much the same way as surveys always show people say they will pay more for locally-produced, high-welfare meat. But in actual fact, just buy the cheap battery farmed stuff from eastern europe, 'cos it's cheap."A clear majority of the British public support the idea of green taxes and think the government should increase spending to address environmental issues, a new survey has found. Kinda fascinating project. Was looking on Wikipedia to see solar insolence for the area and came upon this solar power station in the region.[1]I didn’t see that one coming

It’s about half a gigawatt at Ouarzazate so for their project you’d need 14 of them plus the associated storage. Gonna be a hell of a lot of construction and materials needed.

Not sure about this claim.I didn’t see that one coming
https://www.pv-magazine.com/2021/04/22/submarine-c...
". “However, the supply of power would be similar to nuclear baseload as it would be able to deliver at least 8 hours during any peak demand for more than 363 days in the year,” he explained."
Sunset in Morocco in December is 6:30pm. So the solar power vanishes as we go into the evening peak.

I posted it as it was genuinely news to me that popped up in my Linkedin feed and thought the thread might also want to read it, and discuss.
Opposed to simply make a pop at another poster - and by that virtue add a fat zero to the content.
Morcombe? First 'M' on the coastline that came to mind.
Now, can we get back on topic please..
