Explosions reported in Manchester?

If it was a suicide bomber how could he get out of being patted down by security?
I was there a few weeks ago for the Ed Sheeran gig, there wasn't any 'patting down'. Last night happened on the public concourse outside of the Arena, so even if there was enhanced security for the gig then this area would've been unaffected by that. HoHoHo said:
Confirmed as a terrorist attack
I really don't know where we go from here.
You can't fight an ideology with followers who are prepared to attack innocent children
We'll fight it in the same way we usually do - by saying that we're proud to live in a free and democratic society, and that we won't let it affect the way we live - and then promptly cancelling all campaigning for the upcoming election.I really don't know where we go from here.

I'm fully aware this is a mark of respect, but to announce such a thing gives a massive boost to these sick bds. It plays straight into their hands.
Awful, tragic news. Kids, who'd done nothing wrong, had no political leanings, no "responsibility" for anything that has happened in the world. RIP to all.
Saw a terrible image on twitter, posted by Tommy Robinson (BNP dhead), of the foyer immediately after the explosion. Looked awful if a true image. (And no I don't follow him, but Louis Theroux does and he retweeted it)

An eyewitness said on the news that there were lots of checks done when people were entering the event but it was all very relaxed when people were leaving. Anybody could have just walked in to the foyer apparently.

Shocking to wake up to this news
I saw a post requiring people to donate blood as the banks are almost empty,is this true? If so I'll cancel today's plans and find somewhere to help.
I saw a tweet above that suggests that this is not an official request from the blood service, but comes from an individual seeking to assist in some way.I saw a post requiring people to donate blood as the banks are almost empty,is this true? If blood is needed the request will come from official channels. Don't turn up at sessions otherwise, but if you have an appointment today, obviously try your best to make it. Even this will result in queues. There isn't capacity at regular sessions to cover emergency demand, and extra sessions would have to be organised.

Considering the size of the Manchester arena the foyer area could be like a small city like it is at the o2. No need to go through security of get any further to cause casualties. Perhaps a rethink is in order for where the security checkpoint is placed. Anybody could have just walked in to the foyer apparently.

The big difference between the IRA and our current problem with terrorists is that these are not organised groups of people working together. They're drones operated remotely through the internet, lonely individuals with personal and social issues that make them easily susceptible to radicalisation.Banana Boy said:

The chief constable has confirmed it was a man carrying an IED. They currently can't say if it was a "lone wolf" or part of a group.
The fact it was a bomb was clear from eye witnesses being interviewed from around 2am when I first heard the news in BBC radio.
Was it? Any explosive force within the confines of a building and crowded area will have a devastating effect! The fact it was a bomb was clear from eye witnesses being interviewed from around 2am when I first heard the news in BBC radio.
Very early on they had an interview with a man who had just found his kids and his wife has gone to hospital. Both the adults had shrapnel wounds.
They also interviewed another parent who was blown off their feet.
There was some discussion about it being a speaker explosion but it was clear from the reports that this wasn't the case.

Makes me think of the bomb the IRA placed in a bin outside McDonald's in Warrington in 1993. Next to a wall where kids sat and ate their food. I walked past it earlier that day. I was 12.
Difference is that the IRA normally phoned ahead with a warning and gave people the chance to get out of the way.p1stonhead said:

You'd do at least as much damage at the train platform afterwards mate. No checkpoint would have stopped this. Sad sad day in my city today. I have no doubt that this bd targeted children. My prayers to all the families affected last night.Gassing Station | News, Politics & Economics | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
