Nail bomb apparently. Certainly believable from some of the images of the injured and a video of a girl bleeding very badly from her legs.

fking cowards.

Seems to have been at the box office area. This is the main entrance between the arena and train/metro station. Also stairways that take you down and out to the main roads around it. There is also a Macdonalds by the box office.

They're not evacuating the btuilding though, so presumably don't think there's any further risk to those inside.

That suggests a more mundane cause to me (speaker failure & collapse or even rail transformer going up)
Not sure you have full facts there chap...

If what she says happened ( a bomb went off cm's away from her ) then she's extremely lucky to seemingly avoided any injury.
And not to have any trace of the explosion either.

There's far too many fake images going around social media to accept them as genuine without additional verification. Tommy Robinson was sharing the image of the training event and wondering if it was real...

The 20 dead figure seems to be something only the US networks are running with - not seen UK media saying that yet?
So, when the police (GMP) issue a statement saying there has been a 'number of fatalities' you think it's fake news?
And armed police are virtually everywhere now.

Reporter John Scheerhout, who is in A&E at Wythenshawe Hospital, just posted this fake news. rolleyes

A nurse just came out and announced in A&E ‘Anybody who is not serious, can you please leave and get treatment elsewhere as there have been reports of an explosion in Manchester, we’re expecting mass casualties.

Surprised it's been an hour and a half and no concrete news on what's happened yet. Just appears to be a confused scene at the moment.
Media are probably waiting for confirmation that it's definitely a bomb.
Looks like a blend of caution and political correctness by the police. With dozens dead and the bomb squad on scene, they will have known within minutes what had happened.

Grim news indeed. Thoughts are with the families caught up in this, must be horrific.
I had planned on going to see Iron Maiden this month, didn't go in the end but the thought of such events being a target did cross my mind. That said, it hasn't been confirmed as an attack, yet. Too soon to speculate on exact circumstances whilst people are still being pulled out of there.

Obviously it's a judgement call - I put far more trust in a tweet from a verified account by the GMP than I do in a tweet from an individual in Texas who claimed it was a dozen terrorist bombs...

I've not seen any UK media use the 20 dead figure - have you?

From the photographs of casualties being taken out most seem to have lower limb injuries consistent with devices placed o the ground such as nail bombs, ball bearings etc.

Hard not to jump to obvious conclusions given what has gone before.

The witness interviewed by the BBC said something along the lines of being blown off his feet and seeing 20'ish on the ground.

UK national terror threat level has been raised by MI5 to "severe" in the past ~10mins.

Questions now are:

1. Who planted it / them?
2. Is he / she / they still on the run?
3. Are there any more attacks to come in the UK?

Gonna be a nervous commute for many people tomorrow and in the coming days.

I can't answer 1 or 2, but I can say with absolute certainty the answer to number 3 is yes. Maybe not by the same individual(s) responsible for this attack, but incidents like this serve to embolden others who would undermine our way of life. Expect to see some amateurish efforts in the next couple of weeks.

How about we don't jump to conclusions and wait for an official statement.

Security will be even higher over the coming days if it is confirmed to be a deliberate attack.

Usually security is at its highest after attacks and there are never incidents followed by them quickly?
It has always confused me why there aren't attacks followed by attacks followed by attacks.
If they want to cause panic then that'd certainly be the way.

Treat it with super caution, but some are saying it is IS. This may be fake, but it was allegedly posted on Twitter a few hours *before* the event.

Not being the type of thing I go to, are such events subject to a bag search of everyone or just random or what ?
