I ordered donkey ragu in Puglia a couple of summers back, but was told it was a winter dish. Would definitely try a pony.

Have tried it a few times when away - it's alright, but nothing to get excited about.

Don't think I'd eat a dog or a cat knowingly, but would try most other things reared in a decent environment.

Yeah I've had more 'exotic' stuff before, ostrich, bison, kangaroo, kudu, alligator etc. So Pony wouldn't be that big of a deal. Would I go a long way to seek it out, probably not.

more the sustainability of it, by eating it you are protecting a species. i thought it was quite an interesting approach, they are free range as well.

Admittedly horse not pony but I guess you get more meat on a horse. I'd eat it, you probably have anyway if you had a frozen lasagne or burger a few years back wink

Honestly I'd try anything. The only thing that would really put me off cat, dog or... Other more taboo meats evil would be the cultures that tend to prepare them have a less than ideal histories of inhumane treatment of livestock.

I had a horse steak in a resturant in Iceland a few years back. Bloody lovely it was, as good as any beef steak I'd had from a resturant.

So yes, would definitely try again. smile

I'll happily eat Cheval or Pferde, I'd eat horse here too if it was available. Somewhere between steak and venison

I'm yet to encounter an animal I wouldn't eat.

So yes, I'd eat a pony.

I bought some dried sausages in France last summer and asked the lady what a certain flavour was. I couldn't really understand what she was trying to tell me so when for it and translated when I got home - Ass. Didn't taste as bad as you would expect (or give me the trots!).

I eat no animal products so a big nope from me.
For those happy to consume animals I see no difference between cow, horse, dog or rat.

Yeh id eat Pony, especially if they were given a better life first as a result.

How would you find it being served though, steak, burger. stew, mince etc?

I guess all of the above really

I've had horse in a restaurant in Malta and it was fantastic. They'd done it in a slow casserole, don't know how tough a steak would be. Young are normally more tender eg Lamb, presume the same would be the case for Pony.

I've no idea why people are so hypocritical about eating some animals but refusing certain species, should be a veggie if you've any objections. The more diverse our food production is, the better, as far as I'm concerned.

Not sure I'd eat a carnivorous mammal e.g. dogs, cats, etc. All herbivores are fair game though biggrin

Having said that I've eaten crocodile but that's a reptile so doesn't count. Same for fish e.g. tuna, swordfish etc.

I see a massive difference. rats live in there own st. Meat for human consumption has certain minimum standards attached. i think a lot of meat just inst as tasty as the mainstream ones. i used to east pheasant a lot as a kid, just the thought of eating it now puts me off.

Too close to pet for me, so no I wouldn't eat it. Personal preference, don't care if other people do.
