Corbyn has exceeded expectation in his media performances so far. This was a car crash, so can't be dismissed.

I would imagine he (and his advisers) got a little complacent and thought this would be an easy ride after last night.

The social media reaction will do him more harm as some of the more vociferous defenders have "accused" the interviewer of being a Zionist. That will, quite rightly, give his opponent a bone to chew on.
Why was it a car crash?

Can't recall figure off top of his head. Wow.
The interviewer has the figures but your mighty leader didn't! So he's totally ill prepared for interviews in the week before the general election. Doesn't bode well does it! It's pathetic.

And now Labour supporters are attacking the (wholly innocent) interviewer as being a Zionist. So no anti semetism there then...

Lovely day at office and its not even 2 o'clock yet...
I don't see this gaffe as being too significant. What's £2.7/£4.8Bn out of all the other debt he's going to put the country in?

That exchange pretty much sums up the current crop of Labour shadow cabinet members and the party in general right now. What a shambles.

How can anyone think our economy would improve with that lot at the helm?
Do you *honestly* think it is highly important that he couldn't recall the exact figure off the top of his head?
Yes. He's trying to be PM. If I were trying to run the country I'd know how much my key policy would cost.

Just as I'd know how much extra police officers would cost if I wanted to be the Home Secretary.

I've posted about 3 times in this thread and to one poster in particular - not sure that means it warrants a "leave it" comment.

If it bothers you then don't respond to it.

Doesn't bode well for what? The state of political debate in this country?

Can you comprehend that there is a difference between not being able to recall a figure, and that figure not having been calculated?

Are you able to understand that 4 people don't represent the views of a whole party or its membership?

He performed badly - if you can't see that then - "There are none so blind as those who will not see. The most deluded people are those who choose to ignore what they already know"

This is his first proper fk up off the campaign, which let's face it, has been WAY better than even his most ardent supporters thought possible.
Even Alistair Campbell.
Even Nigel Farage.

But a fk up it is.

Ad-hominem attacks are classic left-wing/Labour moves. They know Corbyn tanked - hard - so they're going after her and it's vile.

Typical. That's the inclusive and tolerant Left for you.

He lost a memory game.
A difference which isn't relevant to my criticism.

He should be acutely aware that two members of his cabinet in key positions have generated significant negative coverage for being unable to recall / grasp figures around key policies.

It's rather foreseeable that that theme will be explored by future interviewers. He should have had notes / his iPad actually logged on before the interview in anticipation. Or simply have already memorised a simple figure so it was second nature.

It wasn't a 'memory game', it was a 'preparation / competence game'.

It sure was, and true to Labour form, Corbyn didn't disappoint.

the capacity of a lot of the left to get extremely angry and vile, while at the same time criticising the right as basically being manipulated through being stupid, vile and angry, and not seeing the hypocrisy is quite remarkable

No he didn't. If he couldn't remember the figure, then why could he not just say that. He turned it into an honesty game by saying he had the figure and lost badly.

And if he did have it and has forgotten it already, he probably has bigger issues to worry about.
