Tabloids are talking about having to evacuate up to 14,000 people, and caling for a state of emergency, where on earth can you rehouse 14,000 people, think it's Camden council have shelled out £500,000 for ONE night for accommodation,

Money isnt a problem, just cut foreign aid and be done with it.
If those numbers are true it's going to be a logistical nightmare.

that was my thoughts with a quick fix replacing some panels as a fire break, it would not be cheep, but compared to moving people out, especially in places like London where property is in short supply it may be the only option.

Tks, missed your earlier post, it will cost millions, and heads will roll, and some will be entertained at Her Majesty's pleasure.

Depends whether the risk justifies it

The Telegraph are suggesting it will cost £600m for the replacement cladding alone. Then there's the hotel and accommodation costs. Wouldn't be surprised if the final bill is well in excess of £1b.

I'm sure a few councillors will be worried about investigations into the awarding process of contracts and incentives.

Why replace it, leave it as it was.

Just watched the news and they showed the aluminium panel being removed on a tower, could they not just remove some of it ,say a ring every second floor as a fire break and replace it with fireproof covering as a temporary measure?
Erm, no.

Go to all the trouble of having a worksite, tons of scaffolding and only do half a job. Don't think so.
The block they showed they were working from cherry pickers.
Obviously they will need scaffolding for higher up, maybe cherry pickers to get something to be seen being done, or getting stuff off for testing.
My thought was that they probably wanted to get as much as they could off from around the base, since there's probably a risk of a local pyromaniac (or chavs) wanting a bit of fun...

Not really the problem with fire is when it breaks out through the windows it "sticks" to the façade due to the coanda effect, this also makes the flame increase in length, so would in reality "burn" over the non combustible panel at floor level.

The coanda effect is for example the effect that '11 to '14 F1 cars tried to exploit with blown diffusers to stick the back end down.

Did I hear the news correctly, about Camden I think.

The buildings pass building regulations but the fire brigade now deem them unsafe resulting in the evacuation?

Is that actually Grenfell Tower in the process of being clad?? It's certainly the same sub-contractor...
