I wish the media would make up its mind.

First they were furious that tenants were being offered apartments in a 'luxury £2 billion development'.

But now they are furious that the social tenants won't have access to the £2 billion facilities.

I wish they would make up their minds who they want to hate.

I've not checked, but aren't you comparing The Mail and Express to the Indy and Guardian?

Now the feeling has changed after the fire, many have been swept along with the feeling that all these people who died were put in tiny boxes that rich people hated looking at and died as a result of that.

They have swallowed the line they died because they are poor and on one cares about the poor, except Jeremy. So we have this headlong rush to prove that it isn't fair and we must now give everyone the same.

When I was a kid, even then people who did not work got the worse housing stock. Those in work got the homes they needed and took a pride in them. All this crap about them all being scum is laughable, the vast majority are not but now many feel they have pricked the conscience of the nation and are filling their boots.

Those who have worked and bought flats in that development have a right to all the amenities they have paid for, those next door do not have those rights. As for they want gardens for kids to play in, there are parks around them but no they want the ones owned by the other tenants for free.

Everyone should have a decent home, that does not include gardens, gyms, swimming pools free next door.
Tenants being rehomed in this new block read the papers and believed the claims there about the luxury features?

Divide and conquer, they basically want us hating each other, takes the attention away from what they are really up to.

I don't see why anyone cares even if they are rehomed at Buckingham Palace, it's just petty envy. May as well be jealous of David Beckham's living room - at the end of the day living standards and wealth are 99% luck anyway.

TBH they should really be suing the council for housing them in death traps for months and years.

Are you implying that a newspaper would "misrepresent factual information" to pander to their readers and sell papers?

Fire Wardens seems to be the best thing in terms of cost, time, safety and reassurance I think, but I can understand why LAs are being ultra-cautious in some way; are they going overboard all together to increase pressure on central govt. for financing/assistance or would this be forthcoming anyway I wonder.

Was anyone aware of the Fridge owners name, before the NY Times link?
Oops, my mistake, the link does not name the Fridge owner.

With a second post to add that I've read the linked article and the Indy is not "furious" about anything in that. Were they really "furious" in the earlier instance?

Yes because the Mail felt fit to run their lead website article about the chap.

Worth noting that the hospital that accused the Sun of pretending to be a relative of a Grenfell victim retracted the story and police are not investigating.

What's happening regarding the illegals amnesty now (I haven't read all the thread and the media don't seem to have much on it)?

If it's going ahead, it's bonkers!

If harmed they should be treated, but on release they can apply through the official routes or be put on a plane. Also, those found to let/sub-let to illegals should have their collar felt.
+1. Ludicrous situation.
My wife normally takes no interest in current affairs but last night she was ranting about this. If she feels like that then a lot of people must be pretty miffed about it.
well your attitudes are exactly why people with information won't come forward. Which is ultimately a worse thing than letting them off.

Some people may never be identified / families abroad (who can have no way of knowing their relative renting a place was braking some rules, as indeed the tenant themselves may not have known) will never know where their loved one has disappeared to, if an amnest is not forthcoming.
Whilst I'm inclined to agree with the sentiment of your statement, I'm not sure about the logic?

If someone is alive, then presumably they'll let their family back home know. If someone is dead, and was an illegal immigrant illegally sub-letting a property, is it realistic to assume that anyone will know their real identity even if they are given an amnesty?

Camden tenants getting pissed off at being evacuated, some of them refusing to leave and saying they were threatened with the police. That's gone well then.
