Sounds legit. They should pay him whatever he claims was stuffed down the back of his sofa.
Right well I see that my Halifax Premium Home Contents Insurance that I pay for every year has a limit of £1000 on cash claims, and nothing if the money belonged to a business or trade. I expect the standard policy has a lower limit. So if he had insurance he can go to his insurer about it, if he didn't bother then he should get nothing, but if they really feel the public must pay him something, call it a couple of hundred quid at most?

He should get NOTHING!

If there is a relatively cast iron blame drain then join that queue.....

I cannot abide the whole 'I'm owed mentality'

If you want to watch the enquiry (that will obviously be racist and shifting the blame onto poor people, innit) then it's being live-streamed on Youtube.

Don't need to now as you have already told us the outcome.

I see Celotext have recalled some products which had previously met Class 0 requirements.

Will be interesting to see why.

I thought David Lammy had already told everyone it was murder.

Do they build in-house or import from the Far East? We were repairing some tools a few months back that were constructed in China and none of the materials were as good as they claimed to have used despite the quality assurances.

Without looking I'd expect that it's the same situation as toilet paper; light, bulky and low value so made as near as possible to the end users.

They might have a foam ingredient shipped to them that isn't quite to spec (missing an additive) but that's what QA is for. It's not exactly a complex product so it's difficult to accidently get it wrong.

Don't be silly, Lammy wouldn't say that!!

It was McDonnell - that reasonable centre left chap.

My apologies to David Lammy, he said so many stupid things over the Grenfell disaster that I wrong attributed the comments to him.

It's being reported today that several people are being investigated for fraud but gave no further details. This could be anything from people claiming money from the disaster fund, a donations page that hasn't forwarded donations to survivors or people who claim to have been in the tower and weren't.

Secondly, several reports of theft, including one of a 'substantial' amount of cash taken from one of the flats. The cynical part of me says how would anyone go in to a burnt out flat and find a biscuit tin full of notes unless they knew it was there - or the resident collected the cash and then claimed it was stolen hoping for another payout.

This is going to rumble on for a long time, methinks.

Far from it be me to say it, but I will. The moment you as a contractor, say, go near a tnts house/flat then silver fob watches, tins of cash, valuable heirlooms,MAC laptops, I fones et al all vanish.

No one ever loses a casio worth £5, a knackered 15 yr old HP worth £5 or a Nokia brick phone.

Receipts ? No of course not.

Because naturally those on the least money with no visible means of assets, dressed in tatty tracksuits, always buy £1000 laptops in cash. Don't we all ?

Alas its natural with a disaster on this scale, people will try and milk it. Same thing happened with 9/11, flying relatives out to NYC when no such person existed and so on.

Interesting to note as of last week, only 3 households had accepted accommodation.

The actual numbers won't matter as they will believe what they want to believe, regardless of reason or facts. Lily said so after all.

For the same reason the inquiry will be a waste of time as that will not be believed either. It's governmental murder whatever the learned judge decides, JC's right hand man has already declared it to be so.

actually heard the news earlier whilst driving. Some chap ranting about wanting individuals held to account and jailed.

The odds of council staff, following prescribed building regulations (and the law) of that happening, is going to be slim.

has anyone (in the 1000's of posts on here yet) spotted how anyone refurbing and cladding the tower broke the law yet ?
