If you thought the Charlie's Army page was bad, try the Charlie's Army USA one.
According to them, GOSH is corrupt, the entire legal system are working together behind the scenes, etc.
If you thought that was bad, try The_Donald on reddit.According to them, GOSH is corrupt, the entire legal system are working together behind the scenes, etc.
"It proves there's an EU death panel for healthcare. They sentenced that boy to die."
"Charlie's life demonstrates the evils of Socialized medicine."
"I've tried discussing this with people on my site and the British in general seem to think the medical work was (a) a financial waste, (b) unnecessary prolonging of suffering. They 100% have endorsed the Death Panels."
The delusion is off the charts.
It really does make me thankful that our brand of moron is of much higher standard.
I'm a little surprised that a few of the posters on mumsnet took it upon themselves to make wild assumptions about my qualifications and my gender, seems like Bore of Whabylon has a lot to say about it, despite having never met me. What really shocked me was this post..
Thought it was quite amusing that someone on mumsnet has spent hours sifting through my posts to work out my gender, since obviously it makes a difference if it's explained by a man or a woman. The more I think about it though, the more I'm a little unnerved and creeped out by it.
That aside, if a few mumsnet posters wish to try and debunk what I said then that's fair enough but they seem to spend more time making assumptions about whether I'm a clinician, geneticist, armchair wikipedia reader or even a man or a woman.
That said, they seem to be pretty angry at the idiots on social media, and quite rightly so. Just think logically for one moment. Would it have even been considered possible just 12 months ago that Great Ormond Street Hospital would receive death threats and abuse against its staff? I really don't know what's happened to this country, to have a facebook army riddled with blind stupidity making threats of physical violence and borderline terrorism against the worlds leading childrens hospital.
If Mumsnet are prepared to go against that lot, then I'm 100% behind mumsnet on this one. Frankly, Mumsnet would be right to tackle them head on, armed with actual factual knowledge. Whether or not they choose to use what I have provided, is up to them. But to threaten the worlds leading childrens hospital, the staff, patients and parents of sick children is a low point that I never imagined in my wildest dreams. Society has hit lows before, but this takes some beating.
This has all stemmed from a complete ignorance as to the condition Charlie has, the prognosis, outcome and possible treatments. I've provided, to the best of my ability, very complex information delivered in a way the layman can understand. But simply to reject factual information because it is deemed as 'mansplaining' and worse to 'debunk' it without correction is just as ignorant as those displayed on social media.

I'd assumed Wiccan was a man too. A quick search to confirm my prejudices found this unrelated post by Wiccan which strongly implies maleness I think.
Mansplaining seems an appropriate description for the combination of superficial / partial knowledge and a patronising tone of sharing great expertise.

They've raised ~£1,3m on gofundme. Who knows how much directly into their account. The classy move would be to donate the lot directly to GOSH.

It's easier to attack the poster than the content. Although gender is rather broad-brush and an odd angle given the subject-matter. The fundamental problem you have is you're dealing with people who don't start out with from a neutral position and work their ways to conclusions via the evidence. You're dealing with people who have a pre-set conclusions and filter, dismiss and attack in order to support those.
It's a waste of time to engage with them.

Wiccy, I'm ashamed to say I can't remember (never got it really anyway ) the finer details but did you see the message 'debunking' your clear narrative? He/she accused you of being a wiki based expert.... they must be using a different version of wiki to me if they think you've picked that up from there???Thought it was quite amusing that someone on mumsnet has spent hours sifting through my posts to work out my gender, since obviously it makes a difference if it's explained by a man or a woman. I think the mumsnet poster was trying to give the impression they were actually a clinician? What did you think? Sorry, can't face trawling through it again to find the post....
As an aside, I can't believe the parents are fighting further.... utter selfish, single minded idiots. From what I've managed to read this evening, I have now only the very tiniest slither of sympathy left for them! Idiots.

The parents need to get off the Internet and go and sit with their boy to spend as much of the remaining time with him.
If they don't, one day they will realise that they missed that opportunity.
+1000.If they don't, one day they will realise that they missed that opportunity.
For a couple that wanted to spend as much time with their dying boy as possible, they've spent a lot of time walking into courts, walking out of courts (sometimes before they were meant to!) and being on telly interviews. Just be there for the poor mite in his last few days, it's the least he deserves.
I noticed he had taken down the email that was sent to them.
Based on this - http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-40733491 - would guess that they want the extra week so he reaches his first birthday (or maybe they just want a week of quiet after all they have been through, even if they brought it on themselves).
I can see why they want to do this but, if he is in constant pain as GOSH suggest, that's not fair on the child.
The Charlie's Army Facebook page is still an absolute state. They really should lock it and they are still removing posts by people who said they should be spending time with him and that enough is enough.
