A band that helped me get into music, and I still listen to a lot of their stuff now. Another sobering reminder that mental illness doesn't care about the size of your bank account.

So sad. I seen he had liked a post on twitter 15 hours ago of a fan and even retweeted something too, and then hours later he isn't here anymore.
Made some great music and had an outstanding voice.
Will have their songs on my playlist in the gym in the morning.
RIP.

I'm very sad to hear this. Like others, Hybrid Theory is one of my popular CD's, with an energy that few albums possess. Obviously was a troubled man, which I can relate to, having had mental health demons for the last 10 years thereabouts.
The sad thing is that when you decide to pull the trigger, you feel completely alone, and think you're doing others a favour, yet he was a well loved man, by his wife, kids, and millions of fans. As I say, sad.

Linkin Park is where I started out with rock music, back in school before progressing onto Iron Maiden and so on. Hybrid Theory and Meteora were great albums back in the day.

Really sad to hear. frown

I'm gutted.

I have lots of their songs on my Ipod, I think 9 of my most listened to songs are by Linkin Park. I've never been to any concert before but I promised myself that if Linkin Park ever did one in either Britain or Ireland I'd make the journey over to see them.

I'm genuinely hurt by the news, may he rest in peace.

Wow, some of the lyrics now seem very sad indeed. Hybrid Theory and Meteora were the soundtrack to my 20's, especially in the car, 150 on the newly opened M6 Toll with Numb on full blast, happy days. In the end it doesn't even matter.

The lyrics always were like that. Just most people don't really take notice.

We should.

Chris Cornell had a huge impact on getting me through depression and dark times in my teens and early twenties and through to my mid thirties.

I never really got into Linken Park, but I was aware of them the minute they burst onto the scene. Chester had a brilliant voice and his work with JayZ was different but brilliant.

I just could not get into the skate rap / metal thing.

I remember machine head trying it with the Burning Red album and it was their worst album. But they turned the circle and came back stronger. I still listen to Alice in Chains, Pearl Jam and Sound Garden etc.

RIP Chester. Make sure to say hi to Chris.

A lot of my music heroes have passed away... Crazy

Genuinely absolutely gutted about this.

Linkin Park defined my teenage years, and I loved their ability to change musical direction from one album to the next. Saw them 3 times on their Hunting Party tour and they were amazing every time. A Thousand Suns is one of my favourite albums, but also Reanimation, which is often forgotten as its a remix album of Hybrid Theory, is also really good.

Once again it shows fame & fortune solves nothing if you still carry your demons.

RIP Chester, you'll be missed by millions.

The band that changed my musical genre preferences.
Reanimation was the first album I bought with saved up pocket money.
It's frightening how many of the lyrics seem more poignant now.

Hybrid Theory was such an epic album.

Listened to it on repeat so much.

Crawling and In The End used to always be on Kerrang and I would sing along to them every time!

It was so. Unfortunately, of late, they're been churning out some pretty lame, mainstream-sounding rubbish.

Not sure if the latter was a cause or symptom, but either way his suicide is tragic and a reminder that we cannot easily fathom the struggles people go through. Very sad.

It was a bit of a jump laugh I can genuinely say that Linkin Park were responsible for getting me listening to rock at all though; they were an ideal entry point. While I wasn't a fan of their later stuff, the first few albums were incredibly solid.

Of all the shows I've been to, I can't think of any I enjoyed more than Linkin Park at the 02 in 2014. All the classics, mixed nicely with some newer stuff. With the band getting right in amongst it with the fans.

They have always made a sound that they liked. It didn't sit perfectly with fans each time, but it was always decent enough stuff. Up until their most recent and slightly more generic release, I'd even call them cutting edge. They never gave in to pressure from the labels or media. They were my earliest experience in rock and I've followed them ever since. Many of my favourite all time songs can be found amongst their albums, both old and new.

Absolutely gutted Chester is gone, and whilst I doubt the band will continue as Linkin Park, I hope the remaining members choose to follow a path music in their own ways.

Just echoing what everyone else is saying, Hybrid Theory, Reanimation and Meteora had a huge impact on what I listen to now, and by the looks of social media, alot of those bands were influenced by those albums too.

Gutted to see such a talent gone at 41, there is an awesome live video of Chester and Chris singing together in Brazil. Worth a listen.
