UK "Drone" registration on the way?

If a registration scheme is brought in, then the drone software & controller will not fly the drone unless it is registered. There will be some work arounds, but the GPS and visuals will not be able to be seen by the 'pilot'. So it will have to be registered. It's very easy for the software to be configured so that registration will be necessary before flight is available.
That assumes the software will be configured to do so. I assume the big brands will follow, but not the Chinese imports, custom-built/modified stuff, and anything made before or not updated. That said it will certainly be good enough to stop the random idiots who buy something and then fly it without even reading the instructions, let alone the Drone Code (let alone NOTAMs!).

I would say the chances of a real helicopter/plane flying 400ft above the ground directly below it in the picture of the slope you posted are zero. Which is what the rule is there to cover I think
Unless you're in a UK Low Fly Zone.https://www.gov.uk/low-flying-in-your-area/where-a...
Wonder when this plagues the Mach loop

So would all the people who accept this is a good solution be happy to have a gps speed controller installed on their cars? Its the same blunt solution, as a result of a minority not towing the line. FYI I am insured and follow the caa drone code, which is more restrictive that flying my none "drone" r/c stuff.
Why my car has the capability of killing 400+ people in one reckless and selfish incident then yes you'd have a point. You'd also have a point if drones were, on the whole, being used for work and not leisure purposes.

I hope the various clubs and associations lobby against this. But I doubt it.
The usual smear campaign has done its job with the general public. Exactly the same with the recent firearms legislation changes and the new hunting legislation.
Sadly this country is going to be one boring place in 10-15 years time. Unless of course you are a criminal, in that case you can do what the hell you want.

I've pointed out its just a "Hobby Tax" and any criminals will simply not register.
As a CAA permissions holder I hope we don't have to register (or of this goes ahead its included in our yearly renewal fee) permissions holders have to renew every year anyway at a cost of £172.
Just another revenue generating option

When these started to become available years ago I made the distinct point of saying to people that possession should have been made unlawful without a personal licence and that every drone should be registered in the same way firearms are. The mayhem they could cause as soon as they became cheap was obvious from the beginning and should have been blindingly obvious to the CAA, military, government, etc.

Registered myself today, it took 15 minutes to pass the test (first time with 16 out of 20) so I'm ready and legal. Dont forget if you want to fly you must be registered by Nov 30th.
I assume that just means that if anyone happens to report a nuisance drone in your area then your door is the first they knock on. ChocolateFrog said:
