I don't disagree, but voting is not the least important thing though is it?
Democracy is the engine. Voting is one of the tools we use to make it work.
By the time we come to vote for our prime minister, they have already been vetted by the party, been through internal party voting rounds and have usually had to represent a constituency. We should only be voting for the cream of the crop, well in theory anyhow.
So I would agree that whilst or vote is important, it’s along side a whole load of other equally important parts of the voting engine.
After this we have the HoL and the HoC a mixture of elected and unelected houses to keep the parliament in check and ensure bills are fair and equal. From what I see here in the UK we have one of the best examples of a working system, which is why despite my dislike for the Lords, I would not want to remove them from this working process.

All this other part of the system for me is more important than the public vote. It protects us. Erode this and we are fked. Erode the public vote( as arguably the constituency boundaries do) and all is not lost.

Well described (much better than my efforts).

It's a system with many parts that all work together to stop us from being run by dictators.

That washington post link is hilarious, and I'm glad not to have waded through 243 pages of transcript - Page appears to have lost the plot entirely.
So good isn’t it laugh
But just think, Carter Page is eligible for an assault rifle...

Before you think the wapo article is just fiction, the actual transcript is just as bad, if not worse at points because the guy clearly has no idea what is going on, is desperately trying to avoid questions and seems to be quite unaware of what he is saying.

I read as much of it as I could stomach.

He is clearly under the misapprehension that he's far clever than he is. He also likes to tell people how clever he is. A sure sign to the contrary.

Sounds a lot like his former boss (who he's never met, of course).

The Donnie Scottish golf course is in the news again. The dunes are ruined and likely to lose their sssi protection.
Not that the course has met any of the environmental promises, not the number of jobs

Good call, maybe I should say “based on our prime minister” because I would expect the vast majority of people are voting for the person, not the party, and those voting for the party t nd to be those who vote for it “just because” , they have always done so, they feel they should, or their family/friends do. Which is hardly the point behind the vote!

Is it just me, or was what Donald Trump said in his speech to the Chinese about China and US trade in the Great Hall of the People somewhat different to what he said to the American people whilst he was on the campaign trail?

He seems to have stated that America's poor economic state is the fault of previous Presidents - not down to Chinese unfair business practices. That is indeed very different to what he said in the campaign. Which is it then?

His love for dictators is obvious and it probably indicates a yearning to emulate their behaviour.

Trump destroys Scottish sand dunes and fails to deliver on promises.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-41845278

Promised 6000 jobs, has managed 95 so far. If that's an example of how Trump is going to create jobs, I don' hold out much hope for the USA!

Sticking to the speech written for him, he's managed it twice before (con gress peach for example) and sounded presidential. Trouble is he then has to ruin it with tweets

Ok it's 1 year since his election win, but he just has to keep going on and on about his only win. Came out at 2:30 so either he's not coping with the time zone change or it was pre-programmed to send.
Congratulations to all of the ”DEPLORABLES” and the millions of people who gave us a MASSIVE (304-227) Electoral College landslide victory!

He still hasn't worked out as President he's supposed to represent everybody, not just the people that voted for him. Instead of healing the country he's concentrated on dividing it further

Just got some trade mark deals through, manufacturing deals for the kids. Don’t want to upset the gaffer of that country.

After Carter Page's testimony where he tried to drop everyone in it, Lewandowski has suddenly remembered that Carter Page did tell him about the trip to moscow, when the emails were presented...
It's not his fault though, it's his kids fault. He had forgotten about the exchange with Page because he was distracted by Father’s Day

So many people forgetting about having conversations with russians, about sanctions...

But those emails... biggrin

Here's what he said -

"I don't blame China. Who can blame a country for looking after its citizen's first".

There was a news presentation afterwards but the press corps was not allowed to ask any questions.

He's a piece of sh*t, isn't he.

Err. Voting is the fuel without which it doesn't work and therefore is not "unimportant".

Anyway, let's not bother with anymore bickering on a minor semantic point.
