Reason I canceled my trip to London is that I am not a big fan of the Obama Administration having sold perhaps the best located and finest embassy in London for “peanuts,” only to build a new one in an off location for 1.2 billion dollars. Bad deal. Wanted me to cut ribbon-NO!

He's right about that one...

New american embassy is hideous and located in a crap part of town.
London doesn't have a surplus of empty space. And it looks crap partly due to security reasons.

Indeed. If there's one thing London is renown for it's large vacant spaces in places such as Belgravia, Eaton Square, Mayfair.....

His reason on twitter could have been a valid one even if it makes him look like a whiny little bh.

But there just HAD to be an actual fact that totally destroyed his whole argument didn’t there hehe

Even the cost is not what he makes out:

“The project has been funded entirely by the proceeds of the sale of other U.S. Government properties in London, not through appropriated funds.”

President Johnson is said to have misreported the designation of the RS-71 aircraft, calling it the SR-71 by mistake. Because he was the President, SR-71 became the official designation.
RS? Was that a Ford jet?

Dunno about that. The old one was hideous looking. Like a fortress. Ok location but the architecture jarred with everything around it and the location was distinctly second tier (Belgrave Sq and the surrounding area is where the really prime located embassies are).

But the whole tweet is a falsehood figleaf to cover his bruised vanity. Just like most days, then.

American military aircraft assigned to the reconnaissance role always have an "R" prefix. Examples would be the RB-29, RB-50, RC-135 etc. - all modified version of existing bomber or transport types.

Logically, Lockheed's new reconnaissance aircraft would have been designated "RS-71" but instead it emerged as the "SR-71". Johnson has been given the blame for this although it is not altogether clear whether this is warranted. "Black Projects" like the SR-71" have often been given designations deliberately meant to confuse.

Fair comment.
However his reasoning is way off. He wasn’t coming just for that but here we have yet another example of his juvenile attitude - blaming Obama, not seeing the bigger picture and passing up the opportunity to meet HM the Q/May etc.
This will be seen as a major diplomatic faux pas and thin reasoning.

He must be causing so many issues within his staff with these hissy fits as the poor sods are the ones that have to deal with the fallout.

Really pathetic
I doubt anyone cares at this point no EU country would want him to visit in any capacity, where ever he goes is going to create a massive protest that the government is going to have to deal with. If he wants to stay away for his own silly reasons then everyone has probably breathed a sigh of relief that the inevitable has been put off a bit longer.

OT but I've been doing a lot of reading this week as I'm stuck is hospital waiting for the swelling to go down so they can fix my badly broken ankle.

I'm re-reading loads of Tom Clancy, I like to look up the military equipment mentioned as I read, so I've been reading articles on various planes, tanks and submarines etc.

I just happened to read several articles about the official service designations for planes, there's whole departments in the pentagon dedicated to assigning names. It's very strict and quite complicated. However there's a surprising amount of weird ommisions or out of sequence designations. There's whole websites devoted to this subject and it's actually quite interesting from a historic perspective. The FA-18 Super Hornet is one. It should actually have had a much larger number because it's such a large change from the original Hornet. There's loads of similar examples and loads of intrigue on missing numbers. God I must be bored but I found it fascinating.

Sigh - the immigrant thing isn't racist. It is in reality much worse than that. It is Donald once again displaying not just a total ignorance of history but not caring.

I wish he had just been honest and said something like.
" I won't be going to the UK as I don't feel I will be welcomed in a friendly manner as the democratically elected leader of one of the UK closest allies and friends. Sad day for democracy and a sad day our special relationship. Back of the queue it is"

If he’d been completely honest he would have said something like

" I won't be going to the UK as I don't feel I will be welcomed in a friendly manner which, given the bigoted, misogynistic, and generally imbecilic way I’ve behaved over my lifetime and especially during the last 2 years, isn’t really a surprise. However as the UK is a democracy the British have the legal right and freedom to express their disgust at me in public. Sadly my ego can’t handle this and therefore I’ll come up with one of the most risible excuses I can for not going. I can’t use “bone spurs” as that won’t work a second time "

Whilst you or I might find his use of the phrase "sthole" offensive I imagine it strikes a chord with most of his base supporters. Another win for the Donald.

Donald can't be trusted to explain why he can't come to your country so please pretend this is a polite tweet from him and not one of the many people paid to fix his public mistakes and social media rants...
