American military aircraft assigned to the reconnaissance role always have an "R" prefix. Examples would be the RB-29, RB-50, RC-135 etc. - all modified version of existing bomber or transport types.

Logically, Lockheed's new reconnaissance aircraft would have been designated "RS-71" but instead it emerged as the "SR-71". Johnson has been given the blame for this although it is not altogether clear whether this is warranted. "Black Projects" like the SR-71" have often been given designations deliberately meant to confuse.
Is that whoosh a speeding spy parrot??

Whilst you or I might find his use of the phrase "sthole" offensive I imagine it strikes a chord with most of his base supporters. Another win for the Donald.
Most of his base supporters couldn't find the countries referred to if you gave them an world map.

They do prove time and time again they are gullible idiots.

Quite. I can already see the readers' posts rolling up on Breitbart: "Trump tells it like it is! #MAGA!"

The irony being that 99% of his base has most likely never set foot outside the continental US. Perhaps even their own state.

Seems strange he doesn't wish to visit.
Lots of talking heads giving lots of waffle on reasons why. I don't see him not turning up because he think'd he'd get a rough time. Even if that's true. He may not be well?
That london mayor is a child though

Reason I canceled my trip to London is that I am not a big fan of the Obama Administration having sold perhaps the best located and finest embassy in London for “peanuts,” only to build a new one in an off location for 1.2 billion dollars. Bad deal. Wanted me to cut ribbon-NO!

rofl
He's right about that one...

New american embassy is hideous and located in a crap part of town.
Fair comment.
However his reasoning is way off. He wasn’t coming just for that but here we have yet another example of his juvenile attitude - blaming Obama, not seeing the bigger picture and passing up the opportunity to meet HM the Q/May etc.
This will be seen as a major diplomatic faux pas and thin reasoning.

He must be causing so many issues within his staff with these hissy fits as the poor sods are the ones that have to deal with the fallout.

Really pathetic
Mention of his staff prompts this thought: what sort of impression does this give to the staff in the embassy?

After his presidency, will the the staff be under an obligation of secrecy about the shenanigans in the White House under him? It will be an amazing story if it could be told. The ratings would be YUUGE

Sigh - the immigrant thing isn't racist. It is in reality much worse than that. It is Donald once again displaying not just a total ignorance of history but not caring.

The day when an American president willfully turned his back on a founding principle of his country frown
No longer the Shining City on the Hill. frown

What an ignorant, misanthropic bd he is. A New Yorker who has clearly never visited the Statue of Liberty, on which is inscribed:

“Give me your tired, your poor,
Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,
The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.
Send these, the homeless, tempest-tossed to me,
I lift my lamp beside the golden door!”

They don't need to. They know the skin colour of most of the people that live in them, which is enough for them.

What about the U-2 (not the Irish rock band) ?
Probably a few reasons, firstly the U2 is from 1957 and the official unified designation scheme started in 1962, also the first planes were actually a CIA project and not any of the services, although they were operated by the USAF.

The later production run of the U2 were officially called TR-1A so do fit in the R for reconnaissance part. As I said in my post above there's lots of oddities like this in the naming system and it's actually a much more interesting subject than you'd initially think.

Anyway let's not derail this discussion too much so we can all get back to calling Trump a graceless tt muffin

That was my first thought. Massive fk you to them whilst admitting that he as President won't make the hard or difficult journeys sometimes required by leaders

The cancellation reflects worse on Britain than it does on Trump.

Emphasises Britain's status as a fading small power.

The UK is no longer a must-visit nation on the international circuit.

The real embarrassment are the sneering pseudo-intellectuals who think alienating Britain's biggest investor and protector is a smug move.

UK is a nation of utter, utter morons frown
