60 votes are only needed if the Prez vetos the budget. Otherwise a simple majority is enough.

The Reps couldn't even muster that, despite having a majority in the Senate.

But sure, it's the Dems fault rolleyes

There's an extra layer. The bill needs a simple majority of 51 to pass. But if it is filibustered, the side proposing the bill needs 60 to break the filibuster.

The vote that took place was 50-49 (McCain is not in Washington and didn't vote) in favour of breaking the filibuster.

I've never seen anything as cynical in politics as Republicans spending 4 months refusing to reauthorize the Children's Health Insurance Program, then attaching reauthorization to another controversial bill, then blaming Democrats for not supporting CHIP. It's breathtaking.

If Paul Ryan and Mitch McConnell are worried about children's health insurance, they could bring a clean bill reauthorizing CHIP to the floor right this second. Every Democrat would vote for it. Nothing is stopping them.
US politics is shameful.
How can anyone defend that?

More fake news.

https://www.thedailybeast.com/team-trump-bypassed-...

(From the president and his men obvs. )

Unrelated but also interesting is the what those fun loving white supremacists/far-right extremists have been up to in 2017.

"On Wednesday, the Anti-Defamation League released its own analysis of terrorism inside the U.S. in 2017. Though its scope was different than the administration’s, the ADL found that 59 percent of extremist-related deaths in the U.S. in 2017 were caused by white supremacists and far-right extremists."

I see the expose story about the crime stats being Fake News itself. This is a real problem with non accredited sources coming up with counter-statistics which ridicule the Government but are based on fk all themselves.

However.

It is all a result of the total lack of credibility of Trump, who has been caught out on so many lies and issued so many daft statements himself that I doubt anyone in the US actually believes anything any more. To be a President and to complain about 'fake news' when at the same time spreading it is astonishing.

The man is a hypocritical liability

I am SO looking forward to the movie that either Sorkin, Spielberg or Iannucci make about this administration once it has finally been laughed out of office.

I'm not sure why anyone would wait, it'd be a hit now, Iaanucci should get on it.

It's basically Veep with a yellow lighting gel over the screen.

And a lot less funny. Or, at least, a different type of funny.

Its beyond parody though. Iaanucci's stuff is way way less mental than what has actually happened the past couple of years!

Iannucci said something along these lines in a Richard Herring podcast last year. Was pretty interesting to hear his take on it all.

More musical brilliance on twitter.

gold medal winner Matthew Pinsent said:
Stormy and Donald sat one night
the sky was clear the stars were bright
the wind was soft the moon was up
Donald drank weirdly from his cup
gold medal winner Richard Ashworth said:
She licked her lips, he looked confused.
He tweeted as she switched off Fox News.
And Donald cringed in fear and dread as Stormy grabbed his overlong red tie and said...

He's such a nappy-wetting little baby, and his fans can't wait for him to wring it out on their upturned faces.
