The prosecutor who prosecuted the Rotherham rape gangs, Nazir Afzal, was on the radio a while back talking about domestic and sexual violence (and forced marriages) within the traveller community and how agencies have turned a blind eye to it over the years.

"There are some communities where we have feared to tread, and by 'we' I mean every agency. I am hopeful that no longer exists. It no longer exists as far as I'm concerned, and the last bastion for me is the Traveller community, he said.
Nazir Afzal often comes out with good stuff. thumbup

He has been on telly recently saying similar things.

Cookie cutter response then.

Surprised he hasn't hidden behind the excuse of 'cuts' for being useless, thats the norm usually.
The 'untouchables' have been on a footie pitch locally for a few days. They've not moved.

KIDS use this pitch as well as the adults!

Now it looks like East Oxford Football team's first home fixture of the season could be in jeopardy it's hit the national papers. Good!

To be fair, he's saying that their actions have to be in line with the law and agreed policies.

I'm sure there's a number of boys in blue who would have loved to practice their "baton swing" in Cromer.

But they know they'd be damned for excessive force and twice damned for picking on a minority by the press/ society in general / anyone who has not suffered through a spell of travellers enjoying the benefits of their historic way of life....

Im sure the locals in Cromer would have loved to see the cops go all John Spartan on them, but it will be people hundreds of miles away with no infestations complaining "for them"

Mailophobes will note that The Force is The Primary Source.

Police force admit blunders that let travellers terrorise seaside town when chiefs dismissed their rampage as 'low-level disorder'

  • Cromer was forced to shut down for 36 hours after 100 travellers turned up
  • Officers dismissed 40 subsequent crimes, including a rape, as 'low-level'
  • Now a report has found senior staff 'misread the significance of events'
  • Police chief was forced to apologise after it emerged he was warned beforehand

Only as apologise? Not sacked or any other sort if disciplinary action ?

Gee, you got to love how utterly incompetent public sector workers can be before any action is taken against them.
But lessons will be learned!

I love how their solution to travellers breaking the law is to move them on somewhere else, if this was a group of lads on a stag weekend I'm sure the response would be different.

Well if that doesn't solve everything then I'm not sure what will.

Rape dismissed as low level?

And he's still in a job why?

Well mainly because it's Norfolk and it's hard to get really good quality people here - if they sacked him it could be decades before we find a suitable candidate willing to come and live and work here......

I agree and I think this is sort of what Nazir Afzal was alluding to; we have let them break the law, live outside it in general, for far too long. They are a plague on ordinary, civilised society.

The response to events in Cromer would seem to support that.

This has been happening again near the village I grew up. Why aren't these people locked up? Its about time they do something about this and make an example to the rest of the travelling community.

"The group are due to leave the site tomorrow but the park has called in further security officers and police are in the area to offer reassurance and monitor the situation."

Due to leave tomorrow??? If this was any other group, they'd have either been forced to leave or been locked up. The media reporting mirrors those listed in the original topic posts in that nobody mentions its bloody travellers/gypsies.

The last time travellers were in that part of the country, and actually in my old village, they pitched on the village playing field/cricket pitch. It took weeks to clear up the rubbish, human waste, rabbit hutches (pets stolen from the local homes) and the pets carcasses. They broke into the pavillion (a portacabin purchased with money raised from many events, this is a tiny village) and took out all the copper pipework. Not one arrest.

Scum.

So would the 40 or so people now be "travelling" elsewhere? No mention of gypsies or travellers in the report.
