ky had a very informative guy on about 20 min ago who said the devices look very similar to the ones used in Boston.
I thought the Boston bomb was a pressure cooker filled with shrapnel?
You missed my brackets... not in this case.

He is talking about the explosive. Plus we don't know what was in the bottom of the bucket.

He was a Major General in charge of CT in the UK and seemed to know what he was talking about...

OK, now 100% sinister. Bomb or trial run...?

Major Chapman was his name. Just mentioned Boston again by another specialist, ex British Army.

Talking about burn down as explosive does not work after a set length of time as it becomes more stable.

Yup, chap on a forum i use just posted the following (he's ex-forces):

That ladies and gentleman is what a failed IED looks like. Note the gas canister in the bucket and the wires hanging out the back. Stay safe people if you see s**t like that or something looks suspicious get as far away as you can or at least put some buildings or solid walls between you and it!!!

Now the police are likely to say that it is not known yet what caused the explosion. but from that picture I can tell you now that was designed to kill and maim. Note that it has a gas canister in the centre of the bucket with various wires hanging out of it. I would hazard a guess that packed around the cylinder within the bucket was shards of glass, nails and ball bearings. I should imagine they were hoping the bottle would explode but instead it's ignited the gas which has gone down the carriage and burned people. So if you see anything like that get as far away as possible or put something solid between you and it.

Must be true, cos he's ex forces... !
Having relevant training and experience in these sorts of thing I'd say he's bang on the money.

He certainly does! And he explained it all in understandable terms - he sounded like he had a terrible cold if it's the same guy. Apparently, he's been part of Cobra meetings when needed.

Yep, yet some people seem to think otherwise.

Scary stuff.

Are gas canisters permitted on the tube - like plumbers carrying tools between jobs etc?

I wonder if there will be a clampdown on the practice.

To be fair - the first images an hour or so ago were pretty grainy - now there's better ones it's more obvious.

Normal instinct would be to stay far away, but Darwin Award candidates have to stand near and discuss it hehe

Why would you have light bulbs in a homemade bomb?
Hopefully just an art project gone wrong due to a shorted battery or something. Those cable crimp connectors are hopeless unless you use the proper tool!
Commonly used to initiate I belive however not usually in series as they appear to be and glass removed.

Yes but that's the usual result - legitimate activities being affected.

Just goes to show, if the terrorists thought they might make any lasting impression, they are sadly wrong. No one gives a st, beyond any momentary inconvenience caused.

22 now.

Seems like the scum got on tube before Parsons Green (just 5 stations).
Carrying a large bucket in a Lidl bag, the police must have video evidence of scum by now surely?

I'd imagine so, they will be very careful what the release to the media though for obvious reasons.

The BBC had too much coverage in the first hours in my opinion
