Some hard-core remainers are so desperate to be proven right that one could imagine them prostrated at the feet of a leather-clad Junker squealing "punish us!"
Just like many hard core brexiteers so desperate to be proven right they will take any opportunity to take a pop at the EU. Reality is we just don't know and the likelihood of either side being 100% right is slim and we just have to make th best of the situation we are in.

It's on both sides to be honest with brexiteers going on about a land of milk and honey and remainers being all doom and gloom. Reality is, nobody knows, we voted to jump into the unknown and it will probably end up being somewhere between the two but we will be alright.
I don't think its both.
If ajd,Eddie and JJ didn't post, most threads would have died out by now.
I'm just glad I don't live in permanent doom.

Indeed. Like I said above part of the image of these two brands is their Britishness. I would argue the same with MINI too.
Even the MINIs made in Austria or the Netherlands?

What about Jaguar Land Rovers - always made in the midlands?

Unthinkable that they might be made in say Browns Lane, Slovakia?

Rolls and Bentley are not made in the volume of JLR though are they. I think Jaguars image of being British is in the past and it isn't used in the same way in brand marketing and image as it is for RR and Bentley.

The MINI production in Austria and Netherlands is outsourced no? I don't see this as an issue as long as some of the production is UK based if trying to be perceived as a British brand

I believe so. I have a look in the Brexit thread, think about posting, then realise it would be utterly futile and go back to getting on with what I was doing.

No wonder our productivity lags behind with the amount of time wasted making pointless arguments.

BMW don't own the Rolls Royce name, they lease it.

I understand that part of the lease agreement is that it must be produced in the UK.

''Under Tuesday's agreement, BMW will pay £40 million to Rolls-Royce for the trademark; lease the brand name through the year 2002 to Volkswagen and continue to supply parts. Beginning in 2003, BMW will take control of Rolls-Royce Motor Cars, while Volkswagen will become the owner of Bentley Motor Cars Ltd. and the Crewe factory. That plant will continue to turn out the Rolls-Royce Silver Seraph for BMW, however, during that model's lifetime.'' nytimes

It seems not yet.

Any comment on the Rolls story, or just attacking the messenger today?

“We’re already revising the logistics channels for the U.K., so that we’ll be able to manage the coming border, whichever duties will be in place in the end,” said Duesmann. “We’re enabling our suppliers so they’ll be able to export to the U.K.
Why would their suppliers need to export to the UK if production was being moved elsewhere?

Lets not forget that the unpreparedness for what the single market actually meant to the average Brit in the 70s is most of the reason why we don't have Rover, Leyland, Jaguar, Rolls Royce and many others as British companies anymore.

We made st cars and rested on our laurels, then when the single market kicked in the flood gates opened to the Germans and the French to sell us a superior product.

If we were sensible we would have reacted but we did not, and then we could not because it was too late and we were not allowed because the rules had changed and that was that.

We were victims of a very long and well thought out plan, a plan that has had a bit of a hit when we voted out so expect lots of trouble like this.

Then I'll apologise for calling you a muppet - 30 years in manufacturing in production, logistics (including managing MRP, JIT and Kanban) and manufacturing finance and I can be little bit sensitive........

I've said before globalisation supposedly leads to cheaper stuff - that is fine and dandy for the firms that go down that route - devastating for the employees that are discarded and what's the point of cheap stuff if no one has a job and can buy it.

A company I worked for a while back subbed out all the AP functions to Malaysia because it was a cheaper option - it lasted 2 months before the situation forced it back to the UK and then to Ireland - I heard from an colleague who still works there that it's all going to India - I give it 3 months........... (will be glad if it's sooner)

///ajd missed out in hoping weeks after the referendum Nissan would provide the first bit of bad news and leave.
When that failed we got told by him that illegal state aid would be given. When asked of the proof of this we were told he smiled to the awaiting press pack. Unsurprisingly it didn't convince anyone he had a clue what he was on about.
In your case ///ajd, reminding you of your past record is worthwhile, mainly because you are a proven bullst liar with zero reasoning , balance and an overdose of glee in finding any negative news you can.

To be fair I do not believe there was any "plan" to destroy our car industry. We did that all on our own, and would have done so with or without the EU/EC. The late 60s/70s were not a good time in this country and demonstrated how bad resting on laurels is.

We seem to have learnt lessons since. That's not down to being in the EU either. I'm not sure we've learnt well enough yet, but in time we will.
