You must live in a whacky world if Harman is worse than, say, Trump or Kim Jong Um or any number of serial killers and so on.

I am not a fan of Harman but she is not the worst person around. Harman didn't endorse the views in the joke, She stupidly told it to show how horrible it is. She complained about the joke when she first saw it in a college rag mag. She could just have said that she recalled a horrible joke about Jewish people and ashtrays. Suggesting that Andrew Neil would think the joke OK was mean spirited, as Neil is an outspoken opponent of Holocaust denial and such like.

Can you buy into all the marxism/socialism rhetoric and not be, as a consquence, anti semitic though? From my basic understanding of both sides the jewish culture does place great emphasis on ideas that arent very compatible with above ideaologies.
If by that you mean that Jewish culture is inherently about enterprise and business and so on you might be in danger of runnning some stereotypes yourself. Not every Jewish person is an entrepreneur. Judaism isn't inconsistent with forms of socialism. Look at Kibbutzim, for example.

Some leading figures in Marxism have been Jewish (Marx himself was of Jewish ancestry). It is true, however, that Soviet Bolshevism ended up under Stalin being anti-semitic, although Stalinism has not much to do with Marxism. There is an ugly strain of anti-semitism in the British far left. Corbyn doesn't do enough about this. I suspect that he may be a tad anti-semitic but I am not sure. I suspect that he's a bit misogynist too.

That's enough isms for one post.

So is sexual harassment worse than genocide?
Perhaps we should have a straw poll:

IMO she has lost any credibility that she may have had.

Knowing the Labour Party's perceived issues with antisemitism, WTF was Harman thinking when she chose to retell that joke? At the very least, she displayed an appalling lack of judgement.

What has Corbyn had to say on the matter?

The Labour Party is not a monolith and does not as an organisation loath Jews. The Corbynite left has anti-semitic elements. This is indeed troubling. It's self defeating to some extent as many (not all) affluent and well educated metro types who happen to be Jewish are left leaning.

I have no issue with her mentioning the ‘joke’ as it was part of her experience and story. If I recounted the racist abuse I received in Birmingham I’d probably give examples of the words/abuse to demonstrate the nastiness.

Suggesting Andrew Neil would think the joke was “perfectly all right” is quite disgusting and that is what she should be criticised for.

"The term "Jewish left" describes Jews who identify with or support left wing, occasionally liberal causes, consciously as Jews, either as individuals or through organizations. There is no one organization or movement which constitutes the "Jewish left," however. Jews have been major forces in the history of the labor movement, the settlement house movement, the women's rights movement, anti-racist work, and anti-fascist organizing of many forms in Europe, the United States and modern-day Israel. The Jewish people have a rich history of involvement in socialism, Marxism, and Western liberalism."

Labour's handling of the Khan case is surreal.

Labour probe after candidate shortlisted despite hate posts

article said:
Jewish News understands that the party said it would would not be able to suspend her candidature as details of her past had been known at the time of her shortlisting. Only if new information emerged could the case be reexamined, they said.
Her explanation for one of those comments:

article said:
In Khan’s mea culpa in August, she is understood to have said that she originally used the term ‘Zionist’, only to change it to ‘Jews’ when she was informed the former was “a term of abuse”.
And finally: laugh

article said:
She added that others in the party had said “as bad or worse”.

Unfortunately, it's rapidly becoming common on the left, such rhetoric. This is from a sibling of a friend of a parent:

You think this is left/right thing?

You have nutjob israelis just as you have nutjobs arabs, you have nutjobs in any other group. For some reason, some people are getting up in arms only when it comes to Israel. IMO, all nutjobs/haters are exactly the same, regardless of their origin, and especially it's not the left-right issue.
