A year or two ago I expressed disgust at police holidays in the Algarve on this pretext. I was corrected by some of our resident BiB & clearly told that it was hard work, even to the extent of those officers involved being late to their own press conference after a night out on the town.

I now realise that I was wrong all along and we should continue funding these investigatory expeditions to various holiday resorts for as many years as it takes to solve the case, despite these locations being outside the jurisdiction of the British legal system. I am amongst the many who are happy & proud to fund these efforts.

Surely the only response possible by the recipient of this request is ‘Are you on glue?’

Isn't there some sort of fund set up for this sort of thing ?

Perhaps I am mistaken and that its only to be used for taking legal action...

My parents were interviewed just before Christmas (just gone - so 10 years after the event) by two detectives who had driven all the way from London to South Wales as part of the McCann investigation. The police had hold of all my parents' mobile phone records at the time of Madeleine's disappearance, both their English and Portuguese mobiles, and wanted to know who calls were made to, whose number was who etc. They had a LOT of information about my mum and dad (who are in their late 60s) - what cars they drove both in the UK and the Algarve, their previous addresses, details of my dad's former business etc etc.

The only connection my parents have to the case is that they are British and lived in Praia da Luz at the time of the disappearance. That's it. Apparently the coppers had interviewed lots of other people who were in a similar situation - i.e. British and living in Luz - and been met with some very hostile receptions. My mum felt a bit sorry for them so got the tea and biscuits out!

My parents got the feeling the questions asked were rather scattergun in their approach. You want to know where most of the money's been spunked, it's on stuff like this.

So basically, it's a fishing expedition?

It sounds utterly pointless. I believe the town has a permanent population of about 3,000, so they must be intent on interviewing them all

On the same day the Met announce they drop 7k cases a month due to lack of funds...

Burglaries ignored if cctv isn't found pdq.
Muggings just dropped.

Yet this fumbles on. For fks sake.

What was the outcome of the trial in the country of Cockburn's finest with the officer who may have claimed things that can't possibly be suggested in the UK?

Yeah, sounded very much like a fishing trip according to my dad with the sorts of questions they had. I won't detail the stuff they were asking just in case, but it was very much a widely-cast net.

Can they put a chitty in for another few hundred k to look for the Honiton airman whilst they are at it?

You never know, they could get it all back when they find him, Maddie and Elvis, all working at Chicken Cottage and sell their story to the tabloids..

They probably didn't realise that South Wales is now connected to the electric telephone.

I would so love to know someone who works/had worked, on this case, to get their views on what happened and also why funding appears to be limitless.

I've always believed that the truth will emerge one day via a deathbed confession and the only ones to be surprised at the details will be the Met.

Meanwhile in SP&L you have idiots saying you should just suck it up and pay more tax rolleyes from our bottomless moneypits.

DoubleD said:
If we all pay more taxes then we would be able to afford more police, then they would have enough time to phone people.
