Despite what people may think you can't just walk into a store in the US and buy an automatic weapon. They are restricted / very expensive. It could be legally held but just as likely illegally modified or illegally obtained.

Terrible tragic event.

Sadly even @ 20 poor sods dead there is an element of "another US shooting rampage" about it and when as a nation they don't appear to want to confront the gun control issue I have absolutely no idea how you're supposed to prevent it occurring again.

CNN have footage of the event it really is quite frightening. I couldn't even begin to say how many rounds were fired but it must be hundreds all in close proximity to the audience .The death toll is bound to rise significantly.

Just seen this. The thing with it being at a concert, and the shooter so high up is people took a minute to realise what was even going on, and then not knowing where to run. Really sad to see.
probably be a ton of crush/stampede injuries to come out yet as well

Yes I do. Old aged relatives not knowing how they'll get home is FAR more important to me and others than some EVERYDAY occurence in the US.
Difference being the old aged relatives are still alive to get home.

Isn't this just "another US shooting rampage"?

Seems the shooter was an overweight balding white man. Will NP&R be setting up a #notinmyname hashtag?

That isn't clear yet but the woman involved Marilou Danley is still at large and could help with finding out why this happened .

Yes I'm posting too, but can we drop it on GM now? He conceded the comment was made without knowing how bad this was. You're still quoting the initial post and he hasn't posted for 25 mins.

Nevada does not ban 'assault weapons' and there is no magazine capacity limit. There are no purchase permits, gun registration, or gun-owner licensing. Blue cards are no longer required. There is no waiting period mandated for firearm purchases and private gun sales are okay.

OK with just 2 people dead at the time it was just another day stateside and my argument stood.

With 20+ dead clearly its different.
If you thought it was going to stay at 20, you were pretty deluded. Did you not hear the sheer amount of gunfire that was pouring into that crowd?

It the grand scheme of things what does the motivation for this rampage matter? There is likely to be another mass shooting in the next couple of weeks regardless of what drove this one.

It's hard not to see it as part of life in the US. America seems relatively happy with the trade off between gun ownership and gun violence.

Probably.

And there will probably be another next week and they don't seem to want to deal with it.

But it feels distasteful saying it right now, however true it may be.

I'm surprised this kind of thing doesn't happen more then. Why would anyone outside of a war need one? What's the argument for? To kill 50 stampeding deer or something equally nonsensical.
